I’ve always kind of had a weight problem when we would growing up my weight would go up and down.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE? The funny thing is that my weight never affected my social life I didn’t realize that I was that big in my head I was sexy
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY? Everybody at my job was doing a weight-loss challenge and encouraging everyone it was the new year and everybody wanted to lose weight. In my head I don’t need to lose weight but hearing everyone talk about it and everybody was excited about it when I got home I stood on the scale to my surprise the scale said 290 pounds and believe it or not I was shocked I could not believe that I was 10 pounds away from 300 pounds that was my breaking point I told myself there was no way in the world that I would let myself reach 300 pounds.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED? On the day that I weighed in at 290 pounds I told myself that I would not put any sweets or soda to my mouth and that was my first step. I stop eating sweets and drinking sodas.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS? I start to see results immediately I lost 20 pounds in the first month
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART? I really hate to exercise so I really had to push myself to walk 2 miles every day especially when I didn’t go to the gym
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING? Yes, in the beginning I wanted to give up I was addicted to sweets and it was very hard to stay strong but I knew that I did not want to reach 300 pounds. When I took pictures of myself and looked at them I saw a different person then I saw in the mirror and I did not want to be that person in the pictures so I was determined to lose the weight.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM? When I got to 170 pounds it seemed like I hit a plateau. The only thing I did was I made sure that I started back drinking a gallon of water a day and the walking the walking was key for me. I stopped going to the gym but as long as I walked at least 2 miles daily I started losing weight again.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT? I lost 90 pounds within seven months.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? I loved to eat sweets! I work a 9-to-5 job so in the evenings I would pick up fast food and come home sit and watch TV and eat chips and candy after eating the fast food then go to bed.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? I’ve always been energetic and upbeat but what I added was walking 2 to 3 miles every day and when I first started my weight loss I would go to the gym 2 to 3 times a week

- Never deprive yourself from something you want. Have what you want but have it in moderation.
- Believe in yourself and if you mess up don’t give up start over and try again.
