I weighed in at 8’13 when I was first born, obesity rubs in my family, by the time I got in the 6th grade I was already in the 200’s. When I was 26 I became pregnant with my 2nd child, and I weighed in at 360, that was my highest weight…

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?  It lowered my self esteem and confidence to the point it effected my grades in school because I was always teased by the kids so I couldn’t focus like I would have liked too. Their were so many things I wanted to be apart of like talent shows, dance teams and sports, prom, etc. But I didn’t participate because I was afraid I wouldn’t be excepted.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?  At 26 I gave birth to my 2nd child and was 360 pounds and I lost 30 pounds after having him due to section and not being able to eat much and on bed rest.. After I was back on my feet the 30pounds came back on and I felt my health falling down hill. I was tired all the time, back was hurting and just didn’t feel good at all.. The turning point for me is when my sister and I one night went to Krispy creme doughnut and ordered a dozen of hot glazed and ate the whole box, and I remembered us laughing about it and saying we are so greedy, but as we laughed outwardly, inwardly I felt horrible and was almost in tears. It was the end of 2008, and the new yr was coming and I knew I had to do something or I wasn’t gonna see my boys grow up.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?  Jan.1 2009 I went grocery shopping and brought all healthy foods, and I made a dairy on my phone that I would record my journey. I started off walking 5mins a day for a week, and the next week 10mins, the next week 15mins and so on, until I started walking 2hrs a day.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?  Within the first 3 months I lost 50 pounds and within 7 months I had lost a total of 137 pounds.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?  The hardest part was maintaing the weight loss but by the grace of God I have done it.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?  I wanted to give up many times, I remember this one particular time I was walking up this hill and I was in so much pain and I was about to for sure give up, I remember Lord this just wasn’t meant to be and was just about to turn around and go back home, but I kid you not the wind blew so hard that day , that it felt like hands on my back pushing me up that hill and I knew at that point God was with me and that I was sure to finish strong. From that day on, I have been at it every since and never stopped.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?  I stayed between 210 and 220 for like 2months and could never go past either weight and it was so frustrating, but I didn’t let it stop me. I

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?  It took my 7 months but it has been 5yrs of maintaining and it has not been easy, at all.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?  Oh yes! Many times I would just try on this one pair of pants every Fridays and the loser the pants got, it let me know I was losing the weight and for a long time I went by that, because the scales sometimes can be confusing and discouraging.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  I ate much cleaner than I use to, I still eat burgers but with flat wheat bread and turkey burgers, I lots of fruits, veggies and baked food, healthy snacks and desserts and all I drink is water, a gallon a day.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  I can do a lot more than when I was heavier, I can now run 3 miles, and I’m very much active now and don’t get tired at all like I use to


  1. Find your reason for wanting to be healthy.
  2. Find a daily realistic plan that works for you and your body type.
  3. Set realistic goals, and don’t put to much pressure on yourself, but take it one day at a time.
  4. Keep a journal and be real about every step you take rather it was a good or bad day, write it down.. write down daily your goals, what you want to accomplish, why and what your gonna do to reach that goal. Stay in prayer over your mind, body and soul. Know that it’s okay to fail, but its not okay to not try and when you fail just get back in the race and try it again, but never give up. Find things, places and people that inspire you at the same time make it your business to inspire others while on your journey, because what you do for others, God will surely do for you.
  5. Eat clean and stay active, but make sure your having fun. Drink plenty of water!!!
