1. What made you decide to lose weight this time?

My senior year in High School, I finally decided that I was going to do something about my weight which had been slowly going up over the years. I was so sick and tired of no longer being able to find clothes that fit me in the JR’s section, and I realized that if I didn’t do something my weight would keep increasing. Also, when the time came around for my senior pictures to be taken, I saw for the first time that I had really let myself go. I wasn’t happy with those pictures, and I wasn’t happy with the way I looked in them.

2. What other “diets” (programs, products, plans, or services) had you tried in the past?

I never really tried any other diets, I guess this had been my first real attempt at weight loss, and it worked! Lucky for me! I didn’t give up!

3. What changes did you make to your usual diet, activity, lifestyle, and attitude?

Looking back now and evaluating my lifestyle then to what my lifestyle is now, I can easily say I was a completely different person. I went from being a very sedentary individual who avoided any type of physical activity. To an active person, running or doing some type of cardio everyday, and walking everywhere. I went from eating very large meals, full of calories and fats and eating all types of junk foods, to practicing portion control and living on a diet high in fruits, veggies and whole grains. Attitude wise, I have completely changed, I am more optimistic now and exercise with a smile on my face. Before I was lazy and more reserved and now I am more active and confident. The most important change was making sure that I have some sort of physical activity everyday, whether it be a 30 min walk or a 30 min jog, or a day full of house cleaning.

4. How did Calorie Count help you to lose weight?

Calorie Count made it so much easier to lose weight by counting calories. The database is pretty impressive and adding it to your food log is very simple. With Calorie Count I’m now able to analyze what I eat, which makes it easier to diagnose what foods and nutrients I’m lacking and what foods I’m having to much of.

5. What was most challenging about losing weight?

Keeping my head up high, and pushing myself through it, no matter what others said. Being Mexican doesn’t help. To many of my family members my weight loss went against there basic beliefs when it came to food. Also sticking through it while my “friends” weren’t as supportive as they should be was difficult, but in the end it’s totally worth it.

6. How long did it take you to see results?

I didn’t really see results until October of last year, but I can remember having to tighten my belt as far back as March of 09. When I was losing weight I went by how clothes fit me rather then use a scale every chance I got.

7. When did you realize that you were a success?

I realized I was a success when I came back home for winter break and people could not stop complementing me, and old classmates could not stop staring. I fit into a size 9! Something that I haven’t been able to do since the 8th grade!

8. How do you prevent relapse?

I look back on how I looked and acted, and then I compare it to how I am now. It helps me realize how much work I’ve put into my weight loss, all those hours at the gym all those temptations I conquered, and I think to myself “after all that effort so I can gain it all back again?” No, I don’t think so!

9. How has your life changed now that you’ve lost weight?

I am so much more confident now and much more comfortable in my own skin! With my weight loss I have also discovered that I like being active, and that I am slowly but surely becoming a runner.

10. What five tips do you have for other dieters?

  • Don’t give up! No matter how hard it gets it will be worth it in the end!
  • Find an exercise activity you enjoy.  Around the 4th month of my
    journey I got bored with the treadmill and stopped going to the gym,
    but then I discovered classes such as Zumba, and Kickboxing and I fell
    in love with working out all over again.
  • Ignore those snide remarks, they’re just feeling insecure around
  • Allow yourself a sweet every once in a while, for me its everyday!
    Just don’t overdue it.
  • And lastly learn to love yourself!  If you do then your setbacks
    won’t seem as grave, and you’ll realize that no matter what happens
    you’ll always be yourself and no one can take that from you!
