WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I hadn’t always been overweight, but it all started when I was pregnant with our first i had this mentality that i was eating for two and that I was pregnant so I could eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. I developed some really unhealthy eating habits and these habits stuck around even after our son was born. It was nothing for me to eat a block of chocolate to my self at night.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
My weight affected me quite bad. I didn’t leave my home, I would get anxious about social outings. I wore big baggy black clothes to try and hide my self & I no longer loved my self so was always questioning how could my husband love me which created issues with our relationship.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
The turning point was after our second child was born we were at the park and my husband was running around going down the slides playing and laughing with the kids and I was just left sitting on the picnic rug because I physically just couldn’t do it. I was missing out on so much I was missing out on our boys and it was the biggest kick in the guts I knew something had to change.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I first started walking everyday, I also started clean eating and adding more veggies in to my diet also increased my water intake. I used to strap the kids in to the pram and off I would go. I remember getting blisters so bad on my feet because they were too fat to fit comfortably in to my shoes, so sometimes I would walk in my thongs. I used an app to track my walking pace and distance so I could use that as motivation to beat my self. I soon came across a local personal trainer who was a five minute drive from my house, I started going to bootcamp class once a week and was seeing results so added a second. I then started doing personal one on one training with her once a week and soon added in a second session.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I had been actively trying to loose weight for about 4-6 weeks before I actually got the courage and stepped on the scales for the first time so at a guess my starting weight was somewhere around 120kgs I noticed results straight away my mood had improved, my energy was increasing my out look on life was happier. The first 25kgs came off quite quickly and then I got a bit “comfortable” I still exercised and ate healthy as the weight was slowly coming off but I was feeling better with in my self so wasn’t pushing as hard. I got really serious with it again at the start of 2017.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
The challenges for me where mostly ones from with in my own head I would have those conversations telling my self to not worry about going today, it’s to hot, it’s to cold, your tired you know all those lame excuses we try tell our selves. Just gotta push past them put your shoes on and go.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I haven’t ever wanted to give up, yes there’s been tough times but I never once wanted to give up. I knew it had to be done so I just wanted to get it done. I’m motivated by the results the changes with in my body. I’m motivated by my husband and my kids to be the best version of my self for them!
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
My most recent non scale victory was stepping on to a bodybuilding stage and competing in a bikini competition. That for me was the icing on the cake, my most proudest fitness moment. I am currently training towards my second competition but this time with the WBFF in the transformation division which is in July 2018 and I am super excited!
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
My eating habits before making the lifestyle change were extremely unhealthy, chocolate, chips, deep fried foods, zero portion control. Still included veggies and fruits and meats but the bad out weighed the good.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I’m currently training 5 days a week. My training style is strength training/bodybuilding. I do 2x one on one sessions, 2x group boot camps and 1x all female strength training session, where we focus on big lifts. My current PB squat is 110kg/242 pounds and my deadlift PB is 107.5kgs/237 pounds. I now love training my body craves it, where as before it was dreaded I didn’t do any exercise or physical activity before starting as I just physically couldn’t.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Set small goals and reward your self – set small 5-10 loos goals and when you get to that goal treat your self, could be to get your nails done, buy a new pair of shoes, new work out out fit what ever your heart desires!! Because you deserve it!
- Start simple – make small daily changes in the beginning, going all or nothing at the start will just burn you out and you’ll end up throwing in the towel and giving up!
- Early morning sessions suck- so either lay your clothes out the night before so all you have to do is get dressed or wear them to bed so all you have to do is get your shoes on!
