My weight has fluctuated in my twenties. It got really bad in 2013 when I was in a very toxic relationship. By 2014 I reached my biggest weight.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE? I was insecure, felt worthless and unloveable. I felt defeated and alone because I had just lost the person I loves and I was overweight and by myself.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY? We broke up in 2014 and I started to read self help books about relationships and how to get the person back. It recommended that I ceased all contact and focus on myself and that’s exactly what I did. After a few months I realized I was better off alone and needed to lose weight and get my confidence back!
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED? I got rid of the bad food I was so used to consuming. I contacted health and weight loss gurus on Instagram and asked for advice. I bought a scale, measuring tape, work out gear and small weights and a yoga mat. I worked out religiously and conepltely renovated my diet.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS? In the first month weight loss was about 5 lbs in the first week and then it slowed down. It took about 6 weeks for my first 20 lbs and then I consistently stopped weight for the next 5 months. Now I work hard to maintain my weight.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
Having to be accountable
Having to be honest with myself.
To stop making excuses.
Not everyone is supportive of your weight loss.
Not to get discouraged and give up.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING? Yes, after the first month weight loss was slow. I’m so happy I didn’t give up, the weight started dropping after 6 weeks!
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM? I hit some plateaus. I would increase activity or slight change my food intake for a few days.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT? About 5 months
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES? I focused on measurements rather than the lbs. I was working out so much. I was gaining strength and losing fat. The movement on the scale was great but only an after fact. I weighed myself every two weeks. Sometimes once a month- I didn’t want it to throw me off.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? I would wake up early in the morning and eat anything I wanted: pizza, pasta, fast food, burgers and pretty much eat that way until I went to bed and with frequency and big quantities.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? I am so much more active. I make time to exercise and tone and sculpt my body. I feel a sense of euphoria after I work out and I feel great at the half way mark of my work out, makes me feel so strong and pumped up.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Sleep- get adequate sleep. You need rest and repair time for proper growth and to avoid fatigue,
- Water is your best friend. You will shed weight, improve skin, improve metabolic function, get rid of toxins and waste.
- Don’t starve yourself. Food is your energy source. Use it during weight loss to make the burden of easier and to maybe yourself feel energized.
- Healthy fats are essential. They are satiating and it’s important for hearth health and joint health.
- Be prepared for hard work and stay consistent. Giving up is not an option. Progress is progress. You can do it
