I Lost 50.7 Pounds: Taking Care of Me!

NAME : Ash / BEFORE WEIGHT : 349.7 / AFTER WEIGHT : 298 / POUNDS LOST : 50.7

As a young child. I was always bigger but I didn’t let that stop me from playing sports. I loved soccer, softball and swimming. When I hit High School and sports stopped being fun I quit playing and started reading in all of my spare time. The weigh started to climb on.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?  It has held me back from doing a lot of things. All the fun adventurous stuff I want to do like sky diving and bunjee jumping and zip lining have weight limits that I can’t adhere to. I also got told I couldn’t ride the Gringotts ride in Diagon Alley at Universal. I was CRUSHED. I am a HUGE Harry Potter Fan. I haven’t been back to try again but it’s on my list.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?  Getting kicked off the Gringotts Ride at Universal because I was too fat to ride. I was so sad. It got me thinking and looking for plans. I didn’t actually start til January 1st and that happened around Halloween but I needed to have a good plan prepare myself for a huge change. I also had bad stomach issues. I had gastroparesis 3 times in two years and then found out I was gluten intolerant so that was also a big change.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?  I started January 1st 2016 with the Dukan Diet and walking. I lost 50 pounds in 3 months doing that. I started to slowly add things back into my diet over the last 2-3 weeks and started weight training so I have maintained.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?  After a month. I completely over hauled my diet. Within 2 weeks I noticed my pants were looser I was moving more easily and I was feeling better.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?  I am gluten intolerant, I had borderline high blood pressure and I have posterior Tendonitis in my left leg so I had to start out very slowly on the exercise front.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?  Absolutely! I have thought about it a time or two but I have looked at myself in the mirror and I see how far I have come and I make myself keep going. When my husband and I eventually decide to have children I want to have a natural birth with a midwife at a birthing center and not a hospital. I need to be as healthy as possible and being overweight my pregnancy risks would be off the chart. I have time to get myself in order but I know I have to take care of myself before I can take care of anyone else.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?  I just hit one lol. I’m not letting it bother me. I still have way to go as you can see, my transformation is still in progress. I just started weight training and I can see my body changing even if my weight isn’t. Honestly I do not have a goal weight. My weight is to be healthy and strong and to fit my frame. Whatever weight I end up being I will be happy as long as I am healthy.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?  Today is April 20. Started 1/1/16 and hit 50 pounds on April 7th and have maintained since then. So 3 months and a week! like I said though I am. It done yet and plan to continue to push myself !

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?  I was able to interval run for 30 minutes Yesetrday for the first time in like 2 years. I am now the same size as I was when my husband and I married about 4.5 years ago. I’m sure there are more but those are the two that stand out.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  I eat clean whole foods. Lots of protein, heathy fats, little to no sugar unless it’s in fruit, low sodium and lots of veggies! I used to eat fried food and lots of pizza. I still have the occasions cheat meal but even then it’s something I’ve made usually and not from a restaurant. I also drink a gallon or more of water a day.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  Night and day I was lucky if I got 3k steps a day before. Unless I went to Disney and walked all day around the parks. Own I exercise 5 days a week and tend to even walk more on rest days. I have way more energy and I love pushing myself.

  1. Find a motivating quote and look at. Don’t just read it, focus on it. I changed my phone background so every time I grab my phone I see that quote. It helps me remember what I want.
  2. Get a community! Whether it be Weigt Watchers, Myfitnesspal, Instagram etc. get out there and get the positive support!
  3. Don’t listen to the haters. Seriously. People will try to kindly sabotage you. While one cookie may not hurt you, if that one cookie that one friend talks you into eating knocks you off the wagon so to speak walk away!
  4. Learn to say no. You can’t give until you have nothing left.
  5. Know your limits accept them and move on. If you physically can’t do something don’t injure yourself. You will get stronger, faster, better with time. You didn’t get fat overnight so you won’t lose it overnight either!
