I started to gain weight when I was 15 after I started working at a fast food restaurant
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE? Because of my weight I felt uncomfortable and felt like I couldn’t really live my life. I tried to stay away from things like pool parties
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY? I’ve attempted to lose weight too many times to count., but always failed. After my divorce in 2014, I was sick of feeling sorry for myself and sick of feeling uncomfortable and unhappy.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED? I cleared my house of all junk food and went grocery shopping for healthy food. And I started taking group fitness classes at the gym because I didn’t know what else to do.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS? I started to see results almost immediately.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART? My challenges were that I had to really step out of my comfort zone. Going to those first few group fitness classes alone was a real challenge for me because I never did anything alone.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING? There are many times I wanted to give up. But I kept going because I didn’t want to go back to being the person I was.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM? I have hit several plateaus these last 2 years. To overcome them, I sought help from an online trainer to change up my routine.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT? It has taken me 2 years to lose 86lbs. But the bulk of that weight I have lost between March 2016 until now.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES? My favorite non-scale victories are going from a size 22 jeans to a size 12, and XXL shirts to mediums! I also wore a dress and a bathing suit for the first time since I can remember, and I was completely comfortable.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? My eating habits mostly consisted of fast food or processed junk.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? I was hardly ever active before. I would spend most of my free time on the couch watching tv.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Drink your water! I drink over a gallon every single day!
- Meal prep is a must! Spend a few hours on Sunday to prep your meals and you will set yourself up for success.
- Surround yourself with people who support and encourage you!
- Don’t be discouraged at by how long it will take to lose the weight.
- Get rid of that all-or-nothing mentality! Do not throw in the towel if you miss a day or two of exercise or if you eat off track. Just pick up right where you left off!
