LapBand, Insurance and Success
A process of changes is truly the way to describe this unexpected turn of events. I started checking out the lap-band procedure for my father around last January or February. He joined me to attend a seminar held in Atlanta and we learned a lot about the surgery. My Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance denied me the opportunity for this surgery, but my father was approved through Medicare. He scheduled his surgery for May 28th at Emory in Atlanta. After basically giving up the idea for myself a funny thing happened in a visit with my cousin. We found 4 people we knew that had the surgery in Mexico. Upon researching more, I am happy to say, I flew out on April 19th to California and proceeded to Tijuana for the procedure! World Med Assist set up my arrangements and helped me with all issues. My mother joined me for support and my sister-n-law joined me as she also had the lapband surgery the same day and with the same doctor as I did. This was truly a family affair and we all are very excited at the opportunity given to us to change our lives! This was my first trip ever to leave the USA in my entire life. Hospital Angeles in Tijuana and Dr. Corvala were wonderful and as an American, we should be able to have the opportunity to do this surgery with all insurance for our health and well being, but that is not the case, so Mexico is reaping our rewards and doing a wonderful job! I would do this again tomorrow if I had too. Amazingly the five months have flown by. I have to get my fills from a company that is becoming very well known in our country as patients that have this procedure abroad is not accepted by any doctor in America, but Fill Centers USA is the company that checks on me, fills my band as needed and helps me through any trial. I use the one in Roswell, GA. So far this tool has helped me lose 44 pounds. My life is improving and continues to do so, as I am not quite half way to my goal of losing 100 pounds. I feel better, I have more energy, I am exercising more (not quite enough yet, but more), I eat healthier, I am more active that before, I am shopping in the normal department and not plus size departments now! I just see my whole life getting better. My family have all been supportive, standing behind me, understanding my issues when they arise, in which I could not do this without that support. An additional note, my father had his surgery as planned, at 72 years old, a severe diabetic, he has now lost a total of 65 pounds and is taking much less insulin than before the surgery. Lapband is the best thing to happen to us in our lives and we both would recommend it to anyone that asked. I have two photos included, one is a collage of my 8 weeks and beginning, the other is my supportive husband Chuck Clanton and me at my loss of 44 pounds.
