From obese to healthy in 11 months!

Just two years ago, I weighed 192 pounds, just 8 away from the dreaded 200. I didn’t have a care in the world, didn’t take my health seriously, just didn’t care, period. Then, in December 2011, I started feeling mysteriously sick. I couldn’t tell what was going on with me, so I got myself to a doctor. On January 26, 2012, my brother’s birthday, the doctor diagnosed me with Type 2 Diabetes. Instead of getting upset over it, I understood it caught up with me because it runs in both sides of my family. I simply said, “Doctor, tell me what I need to do.” Knowing full well I had to give up some things, I started the journey the next day. I increased my exercising, drank a lot more water, and watched everything I was eating. The day of the diagnosis, I weighed in at 181 lbs. One thing I’ve learned about having diabetes: I DON’T have to deprive myself of sweets completely as long as I’m watching how much I’m taking in. As of today, I’m down to 132 pounds! I started taking care of myself and haven’t looked back since. For many, getting the diagnosis means the end of the world. For me, that diagnosis was the BEST thing to happen. It woke me up and gave me the kick in the rear end to take care of myself a lot better. I’m going to see to it I NEVER go back to being the 192-pound woman ever again. I’m in it for the long haul, since there’s still no cure for diabetes. To paraphrase a line out of “The Avengers” movie: “If I can’t get rid of the diabetes, you can be damned sure I’ll avenge my health!”
