WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?

When I was younger I was over weight. I was on five shots or more of insulin a day and gaining weight by the day. My doctor told me I would not be able to live a long life if this continued nor would I have kids or do any of the things I had planed. With every dose of insulin, the more food I consumed… I did not think that I could ever be anything but obese.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I went through a divorce after having my two amazing children. The man I was married to for 11 years made it a mission to call me fat among other things daily, not to go into too much detail here, but for my kids I knew I had to lose weight and I wanted them to be healthy and see a mother with confidence. Most importantly I wanted them to see a role model who was healthy and taught them to love themseves and be healthy as well. I definiely wanted to avoid them ever being diabetic.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I decided that I would start small. I cut out chips, then lowered my carb intake and worked on portion control, as the weight started to come off I then started slow work out routines and started seeing the inches melt.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
It took about a year for me to notice, others seen it sooner, but I began to feel it and see it in my clothes dramatically after about a year.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
Diabetes, a divorce, and just the basic ups and downs of weigh ins and weight gains instead of loses. Though I never gave up and to this day I still work hard to reach my goal of 145

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Not so much give up, but felt like I would never get there, but then I would look at my kids, and my before and afters, then of course I met the real love of my life who has shown me that I am beautiful no matter what and that my journey makes me that much more special and inspiring to others. He sees my value, and he loves my kids as I do his… Big motivator for me!

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Many times, I just remembered where I came from and why I was working hard to be healthy in the first place… My family

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
3 to 4 years, but really over the past two years I have seen the most change because I really devoted myself and knew it was possible.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Absolutely when I reached that size 12/14 it was a wow moment, but then when the size 10s fit I said forget the scales, this is where the results are!

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I ate any and everything carb… i did stay away from sugar but loved pastas and potatos, anything with white flour. Loved fast food especially chicken nuggets, a 20 piece no doubt. Veggies were not very liked by me.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
When I was heavy I struggled to do normal things, I would try to walk a mile or so but would tire easy, once I started losing weight I started a step class, and wanted to walk out the first night, but glad I didnt, because I now do the routine at home like a pro and it makes me feel so much better.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Find your motivation
  2. Low Carb not No Carb
  3. Be as active as you can and start small
  4. Take every day a minute at a time and only look to the far future when you want to set a goal, not when seeing how far you have to go.
  5. Believe in yourself and know your worth!
