After I graduated from high school in 1989, I became less active and ate a lot of Mexican food. I worked as a legal secretary and just sat all day.
I was on three blood pressure medications, becoming a Type II diabetic and following in the footsteps of my mother, whose health was very bad. I knew I had to make a change.
I decided to start a low-carb diet, only giving myself 25 carbs a day. I cut out all pastas, breads and anything else that had starches in it.
The Key to Success
After the first year, I lost 70 pounds by just watching my food intake. I did all of this on my own with no support group, other than my friends and family.
Derailers and Strategies
One thing that helps keep me motivated is first of all, getting off those blood pressure medications. Another thing is all the compliments I have received. That sure can make a person feel good about themselves.
When I Slip…
I handle setbacks by just focusing and getting back on track.
When I Soar…
My favorite “new you” moment is seeing someone I had not seen in a long time and the praise I receive. It makes me feel good.
