4 bananas, cut in half crosswise
¾ cup semisweet chocolate chips
¼ cup crushed whole grain, no sugar added breakfast cereal (bran flakes shown here)
Pierce the flat end of each banana with a popsicle stick or sshort kewer, being sure to place the skewer inside the banana as much as possible for added stability. Place the bananas on a baking sheet and place in the freezer until completely frozen, about 2 hours.
Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper. Place the chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan filled with 1 inch of simmering water. Remove the pan from heat and stir the chips until almost melted. Remove the bowl from the steaming water and continue stirring until completely melted. Spoon the melted chocolate onto the bananas, immediately sprinkle with the crushed cereal, and place on the lined baking sheet. Allow the chocolate to harden and enjoy right away or place in a resealable plastic bag back in the freezer.
