WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I have been overweight my entire life. I was thin from 2009 to 2013. I began gaining my weight back after my engagement on February 9, 2013. Shortly after I got engaged, my father was diagnosed with Renal Cancer. So, I was planning a wedding, and preparing for my father’s kidney removal. It was a very stressful time for me, and I ate to cope. My father’s surgery was on April 15, 2013. The surgery was successful, and thank God he still remains cancer free. I got married on June 22, 2013. It was the best day of my life. Even though I had already gained back 30 pounds, I felt beautiful.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
For a long time, my weight affected everything. Now, even though I have gained my weight back, I feel like it doesn’t affect me hardly at all. Of course, there are some things that affect me–practical things like, the size of chairs. Also, I have many more physical limitations. For example, I can no longer jog or run. That is probably what I miss the most about being fit.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
When I lost weight, it wasn’t only a physical transformation, it was a mental transformation too. I learned not to let what people think bother me. Like, at all. I became comfortable with myself. I am still very comfortable with my self. The mental changes have remained. The weight has come back, but thankfully, the self doubt is still gone. Now my goal is to be a more balanced person. I don’t have to work out for hours a day and subside on 1200 calories, but I shouldn’t forget to exercise and kept myself fit and healthy either. Balance. That is my goal now.
