WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
My eating habits weren’t the best but during high school, but I still active and play high school sports. Once I graduated high school, I quit playing sports. During college, I indulged in the party lifestyle and I would drink every night.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
My weight affected my health because I would get chronic migraines (probably from my high blood pressure). The more weight i gained, depression set in and I developed social anxiety.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
When i went to the doctors to address my migraines. At the end of the appointment, the doctor recommended that I get gastric bypass surgery. I was in denial because I believe that I wasn’t that “big”. I decided on that day, I will lose the weight on my own, with diet & exercise.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started by walking during my lunch breaks and after work, walking around my neighorhood.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
The mental aspect of dieting and nutrition. I would lose 5 pounds and then reward myself with a cheat day. My cheat day will turn to cheat weeks and months.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
My family kept me going. They have encourage me from the beginning and I do not want to dissapoint them.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Yes, I have hit plateaus. I overcame them by purchasing a food scale and documenting my calorie input on myfitnesspal.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
I went from a size 28 to size 20.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
During my heavier days, I would eat fast food almost everyday, fried foods would be a staple in my meals. Now, I have incorporate fruits & veggies into my diet and try to drink a gallon of water a day.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Physcial activity was non-existent. The only activity i got is when I would walk to & from my car. Now, I go to the gym 4-5 times a week and incorporated strength training into my routine.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Purchase a food scale and measure your food portions. Also, keep a food journal. You would be suprised to how many calories that are in your favorite foods.
- Drink plenty of water.Hydration can curb hunger. You can’t feel hungry if your stomach is full of water.
- Don’t weigh yourself everyday. Our weight fluctuates everyday and you could drive yourself crazy if you see weight gain on the scale.
- Add more spice to your meals for example: cayenne pepper and sriracha sauce. They boost your metabolism.
- Don’t drink your calories.
