I Lost Weight With PCOS! Jessica’s 71 Pound Weight Loss Success Story
WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I ballooned to a size 20 after falling pregnant at the age of 19.
After giving birth to my son, I continued to struggle to lose weight and after being diagnosed with Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) I settled into the size I had become.
I quickly became self-concious about my size and when I was diagnosed with PCOS and told I would struggle to lose weight I instantly thought I couldn’t do it. At my biggest I was a size 18-20 (UK).
NAME : Jessica
BEFORE WEIGHT : 236

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
Me and my friends joined a pole fitness class as we wanted to try something new, but progression was difficult because of my size and in the end, I decided to give up on going to the classes.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
After going on holiday to America in 2016 and looking back at holiday pictures I decided it was time to lose weight.
I weighed 16st 12.5lbs and I was really unhappy when I looked at my holiday photos and I just decided enough is enough.
I had also joined a burlesque class in August 2016 and as we dance in yearly shows I wanted to lose weight to feel more confident on stage.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
My husband and I began eating healthier and kicked the takeaway and fast-food diet.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
It took approx. 6 months before I started to notice my weight loss.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I have PCOS.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Getting stronger and constantly finding my clothes we’re getting too big kept me motivated, and then encouragement from friends and family.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I plateaud at 4 stone after a year however I knew it would slow down at some point, I just carried on do what I was doing and the last stone dropped off over the following 6 months.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
18 months to lose the full 5 stone.
I went from a size 18-20 to a comfortable 10-12 (UK Sizes).
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
I’ve lost 10” off my waist, 10” off my hips, 8” off my bust, 3.5” off each thigh and 2” off each arm.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Me and my husband also used to have takeaways regularly during the week but now we only have treats at weekends.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I love working out, I never exercise to punish myself for a cheat meal I may have had, I exercise because I enjoy it.
I dance twice a week, work out at the gym approx. 3 times a week and attend a pole fitness class once a week.
I hardly exercised at all before and never attended a gym.
