WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I’ve been overweight since about age 7.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
Weight affected aspects of my life by preventing me from being who I’ve always wanted to be. One good example is when I was in high school, I made the freshman baseball team! Unfortunately, I stood out to everyone watching the game because I was the only one not wearing a matching jersey. Reason being is because the original jersey did not fit me. I was extremely embarrassed and ashamed. One of the worst things to feel is left out.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
My turning point didn’t occur until I was 24 and weighed myself in at 303 pounds!
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I got started by doing a little cardio here and there. When people started seeing a little difference, I began to do even more cardio and tweaking my diet a little at a time. Then health became a lifestyle change for me!
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I started my journey in February of 2015, I started seeing results after a friend of mine put 2 pictures of me together in June 2016. It gave me so much more motivation and drive to just keep going!
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
Some specific challenges I had to overcome was working out! It was hard and just not me. I would go for a little bit and be done for a week or so. I didn’t want to run because I was heavy and didn’t want to be laughed at!
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I wanted to give up numerous times, only because my expectations were too high too soon! What kept me going was my family and friends. Also, I loved getting smaller sizes! 🙂
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I did hit a weight loss plateau just recently. I overcame the 3 month plateau by changing my diet up a little bit! Eating more meat and veggies and cutting back on fruit and starch!
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
About 18 months.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Plenty of non scale victories!! Smaller shirt sizes, pant sizes, watch sizes and my favorite was that I could go to an amusement park and fit on every single ride! I went twice this year because of it!
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Smaller portions and healthier choices!
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I can not run a mile in 7 minutes and 59 seconds. When I first started my timed mile was at 16 minutes!
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Eat in moderation!
- HIIT (high intensity interval training) is key to a good pre workout!
- Make sure you are getting your vitamins and nutrients on a daily basis!
- If you have questions about any of the machinery or equipment at a gym, do not hesitate to ask!
- Never give up! The real you is ready to be exposed. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, I promise! 🙂
