WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I have been overweight most of my life. I can remember absolutely DREADING the physical fitness test as early as 5th grade, and then there were those horrific fat calipers…..
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
My weight kept me from enjoying things that some of my peers were able to do, I wasn’t able to ride some amusement park rides. I grew up on a farm and being overweight made it hard to be active and ride horses with my family.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
The day that I realized I was either going to have to buy bigger clothes or lose weight was when I decided that enough was enough! I was already wearing a size 24 and they were tight and uncomfortable.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started off by counting calories and walking.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I began seeing results within the first month. I started my journey the first of May and I was seeing big results by August! It felt grade coming back to work (I am the Technology Director for a school District) and having my coworkers notice the change.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
My biggest challenge was and still is eating. I love food! I enjoy exercise, I have learned how to buy healthy options without breaking the bank, but I still struggle with bingeing at times and just simply making very unhealthy food choices.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I have wanted to just give up numerous times, but I look back at where I was when I first started and remember how miserable I really was. I also have a four year old son that I want to be a good example for and help him to lead a healthy lifestyle also!
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I spent almost a year on a weight loss plateau, my weight up fluctuate up and down by 5-10 pounds for MONTHS!!! I just stayed true to my workout routine, counting calories and eating healthy by the 80/20 rule.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
It has taken almost 3 years to reach my current weight, I still have about 30 more pounds that I would like to lose.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
My biggest non- scale victories have been wearing smaller clothes and my weight lifting accomplishments.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I usually have 1 egg and 1 egg white scrambled with ham and laughing cow cheese wrapped in a low carb tortilla for breakfast.
Snacks – turkey jerky and low fat cheese sticks in the morning and plain greek yogurt with PB2 and honey in the afternoon.
Lunch – 2 boiled eggs and almond butter and honey wrapped in a low carb tortilla (I LOVE PB&J’s) this is a good alternative.
Supper – Protein shake
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I workout 5-7 days a week, when I was heavier I very rarely worked out at all.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Love and believe in yourself! You need to be comfortable in your own skin to be able to step out and make major changes.
- Count your calories, it really does make a difference and help you to be accountable.
- Find an exercise that you enjoy. Mine was Zumba at first, and I would walk/jog slowly. Now my exercise love is CrossFit!
- Find an accountability partner and a good support system. That is key to staying on track and meeting goals.
- DITCH THE DIET SODA!!!! Drink lots and lots of water!!!
