WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I noticed my weight loss problem when I was a child around 7 year old.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
Growing up with a weight loss problem was hard, being bullied as a child then entering high school and being bullied even harder. Then off to collage to find people would ask me when I was due! “I’m not pregnant I’m just overweight” I would reply.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I grew up in a small town where we only had one store with plus size clothes. In 2005 when my mom had to make me a dress because size 16-18 was too small that was it time to start a new life!
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I began watching my intake of food. We didn’t have a weight watchers in our town or a real gym so I just followed the weight watchers point system on my own by googling everything I could and started counting calories in a sense. I then caught on to at home workout videos. After time I got a good phone and started using myfitnesspal app – best tool ever!!! I now attend a gym 5 days a week and still log ally good daily!
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
Every year was a noticeable year. I tried to be happy for every step small or big. Some years I see I gained a little but most years it was a small difference this year, year 10 I’m finally noticing everything and how far I’ve come!
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
The food intake was the hardest! I had no idea I was consuming 4x the amount of food and beverages I should have been.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
We all want to give up at times I think. I keep that dress my mom had to make me as a reminder. I can get back to that bigger size and I won’t allow that to happen! Support groups and pages help to keep motivated!
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I have and I’ve gained weight back! When I hit my last plateau I started a support group for ppl like me! Not selling anyone anything just supporting there every step. This helps remind me of why not to give up again!
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
The first couple years were amazing and this last year have been my main successes but every year has been a healthier year!
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
INCHES! I learnt this year don’t always go by the scale, take lots of measurements along the way! Building muscle this this year was great too! Also I’ve noticed my running/hiking race times have all improved!!
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
4000+ calories a day down to 1200-1800 calories a day! Before food consisted of heavy carb meals, past everything and junk, candy, pop, chocolate, ice cream and chips daily. Now I eat higher protein food, veggies, fruit chicken, tuna, cheese and my “bad snacks” are beef jerky!
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Before I couldn’t walkore then 5 mins without breaking a sweat. Now I walk daily, gym for an hour 5x a week, hike and I love running events!

- Myfitnesspal. It’s an app or can be used on the computer. Amazing to track progress and food intake!
- Find support groups they are amazing
- Don’t listen to anyone else if something is working for you and healthy keep doing it!
- Don’t starve yourself or take weightloss pills. A natural progress will last longer!
