95 Pounds Lost: Healthy For Me

Taylor Lost 95 Pounds

I have been overweight my entire life, but gained about 80 pounds between 2011 and 2015.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?  I had struggled to be comfortable in my own skin. I had the confidence but it always felt like forced confidence. Family would often point out my weight at get togethers, and it definitely made me uncomfortable around the people related to me besides my supportive parents.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?  My husband was diagnosed with grade 4 Glioblastoma, brain cancer. He was given 15 months left to live in 2014 but he is beating his life expectancy and I realized I needed to get healthy to live life with him while I can.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?  I looked into weightloss surgery and ended up going to Mexico Bariatric Center for the gastric sleeve.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?  I started losing just days after surgery, it started fast and then became about a 3 pound loss per week.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?  I had to adjust to the idea that food is purely food. I used to consider myself a foodie, but now I would say I am definitely not as I don’t go to food for enjoyment, only fuel.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?  My husband keeps me going. His support in my journey and knowing I am a happier person with more energy keeps me going.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?  I met my goal weight of 175lbs at 6 months post op, I am 5’10.5″ for reference.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?  So many. Over the knee boots were one of my favorite NSV’s as silly as that sounds. Also being smaller than my employees!

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? Protein. Lots and lots of protein! Meat and cheese, no carbs, and of course coffee.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  I do a lot more activities in general. I tried kickboxing, I go for long walks, I squat!

  1. Don’t stress on the stalls, they happen and they pass!
  2. Eat your protein!
  3. Do not stop using the protein shakes even in maintenance
  4. Drink your water!!!!
  5. Enjoy the journey in the moment
