My weight affected every aspect of my life. I never felt comfortable in social situations. Eventually, It got so bad that I didn’t leave the house and became a hermit.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?  The turning point happened one morning when I woke up and just decided I was tired of living that lifestyle and was tired of being unhappy. I made a conscious decision to start making healthy choices.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?  I started by tweaking my eating habits and waking up early every morning to go hiking.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?  It took 3 months until I started seeing noticeable results.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?  The biggest challenges have been working out and cutting out sugar.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?  I wanted to give up almost every day in the beginning. But after I started seeing results I was motivated to keep going and now it’s easier, almost like second nature.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?  I did have a plateau for almost 2 months I wasn’t losing any significant weight. It was discouraging but I refused to give up on myself and my plateau broke.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?  It took 7 months for me to lose 90 lbs.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?  My biggest non-scale victories were fitting into regular size clothes and ditching my fat girl pants.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  When I was heavy I ate anything and everything and massive amounts. Now I eat mostly protein, no more than 1000 calories a day and very small meals.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  I work out everyday now, compared to never when I was heavy.


  1. No sugar!
  2. Protein protein protein!
  3. Carbs are important, but healthy, whole grain carbs.
  4. Any food product that needs an advertisement or comes in a fancy package, probably shouldn’t go in your mouth.
  5. Stick to outside of the aisles at the grocery store (I.e. Produce section, deli, refrigerated meats, dairy). Pretend the aisles don’t even exist, there’s nothing good in there for you.
