I have always been a thicker girl. In high school I was always around the 160s-170s, but I looked healthy. After having 3 little boys back to back I gained a lot of weight and after the second kid I was up to 277 lbs.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE? It was hard to go places with my kids that required a lot of walking. My kids love the zoo, but I was always done after an hour due to the extra weight I was carrying. Summer was always a rough time for me because I never wanted to get into a swimming suit, so I rarely took my kids swimming.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY? I was honestly just sick of feeling bad about myself. I also never want my kids to have to worry about my weight because it was something I can control. My kids are my motivation. I also have a supportive husband.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED? I made a myfitnesspal account started logging everything I ate. I wanted to stick around 1200 calories a day. In the beginning I didn’t even exercise. I always tell people for me it was 95% food and eating healthy.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS? Pretty quickly. I started after my 3rd kid, so I dropped a decent amount fast. Logging my food really helped.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART? I really do not like much healthy food or exercise, so I would try to find things that I could tolerate. Eating healthy just sort of became a new habit for me and I love doing it now.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING? Oh yes!! I wanted to throw in the towel multiple times, but I had 3 pairs of eyes watching my every move. I wanted them to know that their mom is not a quitter. My kids keep my fire alive and I love that they try to mimick me when I am on the floor doing exercises.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM? I think everyone hits a plateau at some point. I would just try to switch up my eating routine and try some new workouts I would find on pinterest.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT? The majority has taken me about 14 months to lose 90 lbs. I still would like tone my extra skin and maybe lose another 10 lbs and be in the 130s.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES? I went from a size 18-20 pants down to a size 8. I wear small and medium shirts now and shop in the junior section. I’ve been married 8 years and my wedding dress falls off me!
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? I stick to 1200 calories and eat a lot of salads, chicken and kale shakes. I like to use my nutribullet and come up with new shakes to keep me interested.
Before the weight loss I would prob consume 2,000-3,000 calories easy!
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? I am able to out walk my kids and my husband at the zoo now! I do not get winded like I use to.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Don’t eat after 7pm.
- Drink a lot of water! At least 8 cups a day.
- Write down everything you eat! It really helps.
- Don’t give up. You will give in and eat a bad meal, but it won’t erase all of your hard work.
- Have a support group. My family has really encouraged me and given me the drive to continue.
