WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I started gaining weight rapidly during my parents divorce which was around 10th grade. I also had a job, participated in the marching band at school and had a part time job. I was severely depressed and stressed which led to me not caring about myself and just would just eat and eat to make myself feel better.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I was always self conscious. I avoided going out because I always felt like people were staring at me and judging me.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
Break ups are always the best motivation.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I cut out all soda and processed foods and stuck to water and whole real foods. I started exercising 3-4 times a week and was always researching health and fitness to improve.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I had to overcome my fear of the gym. I was terrified that people were looking at me while I was working out and how bad I must’ve looked. But eventually you just stop caring and go do your own thing like nobody else is even around.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I hit a plateau when I reached 170. It lasted about a month and it was discouraging but I just went a little bit harder at the gym and eventually I started losing again.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
When I fit into a size 10 from a 22!
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I ate out every single day. Burgers and fries every single day. And I would eat until I couldn’t take another bite. That was the routine for years.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I did not enjoy working out in the beginning because it was extremely hard. But I kept going and pushing myself and eventually started seeing results. Every gym session I would do better than the time before and seeing and feelings myself kept me going and sparked my love for exercise.
