I have had a weight problem my whole life, with it escalating throughout college.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
My weight affected every aspect of my life and was everything I thought about. I couldn’t do “normal” things because of my weight. Towels didn’t fit all the way around me. I was afraid of flying and not fitting in the seat. I couldn’t shop where all my friends shopped. I always thought nobody would like me because of my weight.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I graduated college and moved to a new city and knew it was time for a new me! It was a turning point in my life

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started going to the gym and doing to bike or water aerobics classes. I started counting calories and paying attention to my body and knowing when I was really hungry or just bored.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I would say 2 months into my journey. My clothes started to get loose and I could do more at the gym. I knew what happened when I gave up I wanted to see what happened when I didn’t!

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
Food addiction! My whole world revolved around food and I used it to cope with a lot. Food was a comfort for me and made me “happy”

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
The first few months were definitely hard to break bad habits. I definitely didn’t think I could keep it up for as long as I have. I kept going because I knew it would get easier and I had the drive to change. That internal drive is essential in order to be successful. You need to WANT it and WORK for it

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
I have lost 80 lbs in 8 months

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Being able to wrap a towel all the way around me, rings getting big on me, not worrying about flying and having the seatbelt fit around me, being able to shop anywhere and they have my size! Also truly learning to love myself at every stage of the journey. At the beginning i found myself saying “I’ll like myself more in 30 lbs” but you can’t think like that! You have to love yourself always

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Clean eating! Fruits, veggies, lean meats, healthy fats, “good” carbs. As little processed food as possible. When I was heavier I ate whatever and whenever i wanted with no care in the world what I was doing to my body

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I workout 4-5 times a week compared to not having gone to the gym in 3 years

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Change your mindset! Weight loss is a mental challenge more than a physical.
  2. MEAL PREP. I meal prep every Sunday and have all my lunches dinners and snacks ready for the week! It makes it so easy to stay on track.
  3. Reward yourself for small victories. I thought of my weight loss in 10lb increments and every 10 lb I lost I rewarded myself with a pedicure, massage, new clothes, haircut, etc. (Non Food!!)
  4. Be consistent! You can’t turn off and on a healthy lifestyle change.
  5. It’s okay to not be perfect. Life happens and we will have a piece of cake and that’s okay! This is a lifestyle change
