WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
As I entered my teenage years, I always struggled with my weight. Though I always kept a smile on my face, I was a strong girl but felt uncomfortable with my weight.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
It affected me in many ways, from growing up and not being able to get into cute outfits that my friends wore to not being chosen to be on a team because of my weight. When I became a mother I always put myself last, made sure everyone was taken care of first. Along with running my own childcare business at the time. So this left little time for myself.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I said one day to myself,”enough is enough!” I was having to much fun raising my children til one day found myself almost falling all the time and almost broke my ankle. Dont get me wrong i could be a little clumsy still but this was a little to nuch. I also seen a picture of myself that night as I looked at my ankle a little sore and said…that’s I! Enough is enough!
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
A few months because it was still hard for me to adjust on the bad eating habits I was used to.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
My eating habits, such as ..late night eating, portion control and I always has an excuse not to get up and do it.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Yes, my first few Zumba classes..I thought I was having a heart attack…but came to find out that it wasnt…it was just muscles on my arms and chest that hadn’t been used in forever…it kept going because my children said, “Mommy don’t give up, we love you. We know you don’t give up without a fight”. I cried and got up and dusted myself off and hit it harder. They were my inspiration and my motivation, along with my parents and loving husband.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
1 year…because I was having a hard time with the eating healthier. Now, I’m so used to it, I cook all out scratch, and healthier. My daughter lost 60 pounds and my son lost 30.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I eat a healthy breakfast, oatmeal with blueberries with one boiled egg before heading to zumba, snack a banana, lunch..a fresh salad with avocado, tomatoes, and chicken breast. Dinner, zucchini Lasagna with a side salad. When I was heavier…I ate alot of fast food.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I was always active even when I was heavier. I owned a childcare business and was raising my children. But I did have limits, or would fall alot…lol. At this moment I could run, dance, climb and do more vigorous activities, and I love it.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Get up and do it! Don’t give up.
- Drink water, eliminate sodas, sweet juices, artificial beverages. Stick to infused waters if you want a different taste to just water.
- Watch your portions. And eat more veggies, less carbs. Stick to light meats…not dark meats. Ex: chicken over beef ….turkey over pork.
- Excercise, get up and have fun working out. Put music and feel the music and dance to it. It’s excercise too♡
- Mind over matter. It’s all in the mind. Don’t give up. Love yourself and live for a healthier you.
