HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE? I didn’t have any drive before to commit to anything I would start stuff all the time and quit. college, exercise classes
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY? After having my second child ready to ditch the maternity clothes went to my local River Island store something that was supposed to be happy and fun resulted in me been in tears after trying on nemouros amount of clothes nothing fitted me unless it was stretchy but looked like it was going to burst at the seam.
The same week I also went to a theme park with my children and had the embarrassment of not been able to get the bar down
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED? I joined my local slimming world group and learnt I was classed as obese with an bmi of 36.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS? I still sometimes struggle to see the results
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING? I’ve hit loads of speed humps during my journey where I thought I wanted to quit and questioned myself why im doing it.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT? 20 months
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES? Im now a smaller size in clothes then when I was a teen at school. I’m also able to do activities I weren’t able to do before due weight restrictions last year I was able to do a lovers tanderm bungee jump of 300ft.
I’ve also set personal challenges for my future to do things I could never of have done before such as hike up Ben Nevis.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? Before joining slimming world I couldn’t cook and had no intrest or motivation of leaening so lived off oven processed food and takeaways I never had 2 a day let alone having 5 a day. I’ve now learnt how to cook nutritional meals from scratch which don’t just benefit me but the whole family. I didnt realise how poor my relationship with food was and used it as a comforter/ treats and celebrations would all evolve around food.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? I would occasionally go to an exercise class but nothing concrete, after havibg all this extra energy and loosing 70lbs, In September there was a couch to 5k course at my local running club, I decided to give it a try and I fell in love with it. I’m now a member of the running club and run at least twice a week and have now signed up to do half a marathon in May. I’ve even now sacrificed my Saturday mornings to do the park run, before I could never run after my children without been tired and out of breath. I’ve also been attending an aerial hoop class I surprised myself at what I could do if I put my mind to it.
