I have always been bigger but not overweight, I played a lot of sports and I was very muscular. Until I became pregnant with my oldest son who is 5 now and 10 months later I was pregnant with my youngest son who is 3. After the pregnancy I gained 100lbs. I had to get my gallbladder removed after my first pregnancy and after my second I developed incisional hernia on my c section. This became my excuse not to workout, and my weight just sky rocked through the roof.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE? My weight affected every aspect of my life. I became very depressed, angry, and just an unpleasant person to be around. My weight even affected me as a parent, I always cry thinking back but being so negative and depressed, I was not the best mother I could’ve been and I know for a fact my weight was the reason.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY? I went for a physical with my primary doctor and usually he is so sweet, “Hi Jazmin, how are you, how are the kids” ect. But this time he walked and and shut the door and says “What are you doing to yourself Jazmin, you have gained just over 100 lbs since the last time I saw you” I sat there not knowing what to say. He continued, ” do you now know what you’re doing ?! You’re pre diabetic!” I literally just sat there in complete shock. He then says, “if you continue the way you’re going, you will never see your children graduate, and if you do make it to that, I garuntee that you will never see them walk down the isle, you are killing yourself” I will never forget those words.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED? I started googling recepies , exercises, and different gym memberships. I came across a place called The Camp Transformation Center and they had an advertisement “Lose 20lbs in 6 weeks” They give you a full meal plan and in the gym it’s circuit training and you have a trainer telling you what to do! I went in for an orientation and decided to go ahead and try it.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS? I started the challenge on January,11,2016 and I noticed results within my first week of the challenge! I lost 12lbs my first week! And by the end of my first challenge I lost 31 lbs.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART? I had a lot of obstacles that I had to overcome during my weight loss. Laziness and fear being the biggest ones emotionally and my incisional hernia was my biggest one physically.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING? Of course! I can’t tell you how many times I broke down and just said forget this! But everytime I wanted to quit I could hear my doctors words all over again, my children are young and they need their mother, they helped me to push through.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM? I did. I asked around the camp and asked a couple of trainers and they all recommend that I carb cycle and that seemed to get things going again.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT? It took about 6 1/2 months to lose 75lbs
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES? A bunch off them! Before losing the weight I wore a size 3x shirt that was pretty snug and now I’m wearing a size large! When I first started working out I couldn’t do a burpee, lift any heavy weights, run a mile without stopping, but now I can do multiple burpees, I’m lifting heavy weights, and I’m running two miles without stopping!
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? I actually eat more now than I did when I was heavier. I eat every two and a half hours, and each meal includes 4 oz of lean protein, 2oz of complex carbs, and unlimited green veggies. As oppose to when I was heavier I would always skip breakfast and for lunch I would go out to eat and then snack on candy and cookies or anything thoughout the rest of the day.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? When I was heavier I never exercised whatsoever. The most exercise I got was walking around the mall when I needed to go shopping. Now I have to workout for a minimum of an hour and a half a day for 5 days out of the week.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Drink your water. Water is so important, it flushes everything out.
- Trust the process. Weight loss is not an easy process but nothing in life that is worth it comes easy and always remember slow progress is still progress.
- It’s a lifestyle change. Don’t think of it as a quick fix or a diet. because if you do and go back to your old ways the weight will come back and starting from square 1 all over again just sucks! Period.
- surround your self with positive people. Negativity loves company and you just don’t need that.
- Never give up! You are stronger than you think! Push through the pain through the doubting, through the barriers that once held you back!
