WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I was never small after puberty! Not fat, but never thin. I am a tall girl with a bigger build & was always bigger than most girls.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I was always insecure! I felt fat and thought I’d just be a fat girl my whole life. I had kids, and it got worse and I just thought I’d always be a “fat mom.”
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
After 2 kids and weighing 242 pounds, I decided to join a gym & all the sudden I thought to myself, “why not me??”
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
Joining a gym in 2011 changed me. I did classes (Zumba, kick boxing, step, etc and then eventually, doing Boot Camp…) and found a love for working out! I went from 242 to 180 and then went to a beginners lifting class to learn about weight lifting! It became a huge love for me! In 2013, I had my 3rd baby. Even after lifting and working out during my whole pregnancy (up to 37 weeks!) I gained 50 lbs. I lost a chunk after he was born, but was still up 35 lbs. I started crossfit, but because my baby didn’t sleep and I struggled with indulging in food, I actually gained another 10lbs. When that baby was 6.5 months old, I got pregnant again. My 4th baby came 15 months after my 3rd. I was up to 230lbs. Life was hell & my appetite from nursing was out of control. I was using food as a reward for my hard days and it was the highlight of my life. I was drowning! I ended up gaining 30lbs more AFTER my baby was born. I was at 265 when I started my weight loss journey the second time!
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
Tracking food, not liking vegetables, cutting portions, finding time to make it to the gym with little kids, my husband working long hours!
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
All the time! Results keep me going! Every time I felt like I was failing, I would measure or try on clothes I was using to track and it would keep me going!!
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Yes! Letting myself cry and be upset. Honestly! I was putting in the HARD work every day and it would piss me off. I let myself feel it and would push through. Knowing in the long run, it WOULD pay off!
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
About 6 months, both times!
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
So many! With lifting, the scale moves slowly! I’ve used clothing to track and see my progress! My Instagram acct is mostly pics of my progress using the same clothes! Also, the way I feel. Feeling so proud of myself to do it TWICE makes me so proud of myself. It’s like the only thing in my life I’ve accomplished personally outside of my awesome kiddos!!
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I used to eat so much. The food and the portions were ridiculous! Now o eat for fuel. YES it’s sooo hard, but I try to stay focused knowing I don’t have to be sooo strict when it’s time to maintain!
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I went from sitting all day holding babies to making sure I get to the gym 5-6 days a week!
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Take it one day at a time. One bite at a time. One work out at a time! Don’t think of the end goal often!
- Figure out what works for YOU to be successful! It will change often, but just get started!
- Take pics!! Even if you’re embarrassed and feel gross, you will be so glad you did!!
- It will be such a roller coaster! Feel all the feelings! Be frustrated, be sad, PRAISE yourself, be proud, etc!!
