Weight Loss Before and After: Debbie Gets Skinny After 70 Pound Weight Loss
NAME : Debbie
BEFORE WEIGHT : 310
AFTER WEIGHT : During weight* 240
POUNDS LOST : 70 so far
WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
The only time I can remember being skinny was from birth to age 10. At 10 I started to get bored and started to eat. Been overweight ever since.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
In many things. My self esteem. Not wanting to do things because of what I looked like, being cautious of where I sat in fear of breaking chairs. Although I had many friends and was never picked on in school, my inner voice was pretty harsh. It’s funny though. I went back and forth. I’ve never been able to shop in a regular store. I’d get sad that I couldn’t get cute clothes, then a lot of new plus size stores would open up with clothes I liked and I’d think. “Oh. I don’t have to lose weight! These outfits look great! I’ll just be a plus size girl!” Funny though. I never thought myself to have a low self esteem. I knew that I was pretty, I was healthy and very happy person and honestly loved to look in the mirror and take make pictures of myself. lol!
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I was in a bad relationship (without noticing it) and would eat a LOT. I’m talking at 2 in the morning EVER night I’d go to Wendy’s get a whole combo and eat it on my way home in just 5 minutes. I’m talking Big Cheesy Bacon burger, fries, and a coke. This was after having a full day of breakfast lunch dinner and make unhealthy snacks in between. I stepped on the scale and saw that I weighed 310 pounds! I felt gross, unhealthy and ready to be skinny.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
Thankfully I started taking a nutrition class that learned SO much! The dangers of Sweeteners, High Fructose corn syrup, how vitamins, minerals and clean foods help your body and all that good stuff. I was hooked! I was amazed on how God created our bodies. If we eat the foods He put on this earth to eat, our bodies can be amazing and they’re made to heal itself. So I started eating Clean. Meats, fruit, veggies, nuts and seeds.
I also started a Vlog (Video Diary) of my journey. https://www.youtube.com/user/DebbieDoesSkinny
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
Immediate! I had been eating SO bad that once I started putting healthy foods in my body it started show me that it like it! Going from eating 3 cups of Ice cream with sugar cereal and syrup on it (so embarrassed to admit that) after every meal, to eating chicken, veggies, juicing, and exercising I started to feel GREAT and wanted to keep going.
Later into my weight loss I got a personal trainer for about 6 months. It was amazing. I have muscles and so much strength now that I didn’t know was possible. And having someone to push you is a great motivator.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
Sugar. I’m addicted 100% to sugar. And I still struggle with it, but learning to eat fruits instead of cakes and donuts helped me to curb that craving. Getting the motivation to work out with I didn’t have a trainer any more.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Of course. It can be hard. But thinking of the fact that I could be thinner and fit one day is more of a desire than eating that big piece of cake!
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Yeah. I’ve lost 70 pounds so far and I still have 30 pounds more to go to reach my goal. I hit a plateau not because of any fault but my own. I didn’t gain weight but I just maintained. My husband and I moved and had a lot of things going on that kinda threw me off track but since last month I’ve gotten back on it and I’m going towards my goal!
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
For the most part I lost the big part of it in about 1 or 2 years. It was a very slow process which I’m grateful for because it helps healthy habits stick and become part of my daily routine.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Yes! Being able to cross my legs like a lady. Putting my legs up in a small chair. Clothes fitting better and not having to find the plus size section of every store. I can just walk into any store and know that I can find something that fits and looks good.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
So much cleaner. I could proudly take a picture of my meals and send it to everyone I know and not be ashamed.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I’m a lot more active. Aside from going to the gym, I’m always skipping and hopping around everywhere, when I go to the store I don’t look for the closest spot. And I even have challenges sometimes with my followers on Facebook to look for the farthest spot in the lot and walk all the way in. I love being active. I would love to have a treadmill desk for my work. We’ll see 🙂
I’m a photographer and now I can get down on the floor and pop right back up or climb on a table to get the perfect shot and feel confident that I can do it and that I wont break the table!
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Eat clean! Perimeter shop at the grocery store. Don’t go down the aisles! Stick to the outside. Produce, dairy meats. 🙂
- Drink LOTS of water. Cut out everything else. Just drink water. Take your weight, cut it in half and drink that amount in ounces.
Ex: If you’re 200 pounds, drink 100 ounces of water.
- Get moving! Join the gym, go do zumba (at a gym or even the dvds) go for a walk, bike ride. What ever you do, move! If you have a desk job, set a timer so that every hour or so you get up , stretch, walk around. Don’t sit your life away!
- Don’t “treat” yourself with food when you make a goal. Go get your nails done, or buy a new piece of clothing or exercise gear. When you eat something bad, you’re not treating your self, you’re re-triggering those temptations. Besides. You’re not a DOG!
- Love who you are NOW don’t wait until you reach your goal. You’re amazing!
