WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I started developing a weight problem in elementary school. By the time I was in 6th grade I was almost 180 lbs. By the time I hit the age of 13 I was 200 lbs.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
My weight affected my life in so many ways so many areas. I was teased constantly because of my weight but also my height as well. I never understood why I was different. Being a tall female has its highs and lows. But being overweight and tall was a struggle.
I was so embarrassed of myself. I never went anywhere. I eliminated myself from my friends. I thought that I was an embarrassment to my family. I felt like they always had to defend me. I never wanted to put them in an awkward situation. It affected me being in a relationship. I was always mad at the world and just was angry all the time.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
My turning point was when I looked in the mirror and realized that I deserved to be happy. I went to the doctor and got on the scale and was nearly 300 lbs. I knew it was time. I also developed a stomach bacteria, I was depressed, I had anxiety, I would constantly catch panic attacks. I was on medication for acid reflux, and I was on an anti depressant.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started by first developing a better spiritual life. I had to get rid of all the negativity and negative people that had an impact on my life. I started by taking one day at a time. I cut out all red meat and cold drinks. I would walk 2-3 times a week.
Then about a month later I started to get results so I increased my workout to 5-6 days a week with weight lifting as well. I started to study nutrition. Focus on clean eating. I started juicing my fruits and vegetables in the morning. I love the taste and it gives me natural energy. I also limit my carb intake and that when I really noticed results.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I started to see results within the month. I noticed my clothes were fitting better, I had more energy, my skin was clearer
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
The challenges that I face was definitely dealing with the negativity of people who don’t understand your journey and how important it is to you. Peple say oh you can afford to gain a little weight you are tall. No I’m not comfortable with my self I need people to support my journey. Also lack of funds. When you are on a tight budget it can be challenging. I realize that I had to make sacrafices. I had to make a decision do I want to be healthy more so do I deserve happiness the answer is YES !!!
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Yes I want to give up all the time. I have bad days but I realize that this is a lifestyle. Its not a easy journey but its worth it. I have goals and dreams that I want to come to pass. It won’t happen being 300lbs and unhappy, angry, or depressed.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Yew I did hit a plateau but I started lifting more weights. I switched up my excercise routine. I started doing yoga. It felt great doing something different.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
It took me about 6-9 months.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
My daily diet now is
Breakfast a smoothie made with spinach,kale,ginger,strawberries,blueberries,water
Snack boiled egg
Lunch grill chicken salad with lite balsamic vinaigrette
Dinner grill fish and veggies.
A year ago
Breakfast Sausage egg and cheese biscuit with hash brown and diet coke
Snack A bag of potato chips, cookies, candy
Lunch Cheeseburger po boy ( large) with large fries and large diet drink
Dinner Big mac combo from McDonald’s supersize with large fries. 2 applepies and a caramel sundae.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I was not active at all when I was heavy. Now I work out at least 5-6 days a week. I lift weights and switch up my cardio
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Take one day at a time.
- Begin each day saying positive affirmations. I can do this
I can’t be stopped
I deserve to be happy
I deserve to be healthy
- Don’t let your emotions get the best of you. Even when you don’t feel like doing anything push yourself to be active
- Have a positive support system. They may not understand your journey but they must respect it or evaluate your surroundings
- Its ok to have a bad day we all do. But its important to get up!!! Keep going!!! You are not alone. You are worth it
