WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I don’t really know when I started developing the weight problem… I’m just going to assume it was towards the end of high school and into college when I ate fast food all the time, and didn’t really take care of myself.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
When I realized that my clothes were starting to get tight, I would avoid going out with friends or to family events. I was SUPER self conscious, I never went shopping because I would CRY in the dressing rooms. But, I still never thought to try to change my eating habits.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I guess I didn’t really noticed what the scale REALLY said, until I went to the doctors for a check up and she said “wow, you’ve gone up 25 lbs since you were here last year.” Also, I was constantly being made fun of for being SO MUCH bigger than my mom and sister.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
Honestly, the first step I took, thinking it would work, was trying to restrict my calories SO LOW that I was pushing MAYBE 700-900 a day. Don’t get my wrong, I dropped a couple pounds quickly, but as soon as I ate over that amount of calories the scale went up 10 lbs and I hated myself even more. I knew that was when I had to research a HEALTHY way to lose the weight.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
Once I started losing weight the right and healthy way, I was losing about 8-10 lbs a month. Initially lost about 50 lbs in 6 months, before gaining some of it back.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
Lack of funds was def a challenge that I had to overcome. I was between jobs and couldn’t really afford a gym membership anymore so I stopped going and borrowed a friends “21 day fix” program and worked out from home.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
In the last 3 years of my weight loss journey, I have hit like 2-3 plateaus, and the only way I overcame them was I switched up my workouts and I changed my nutrition just a little bit… i.e. less carbs, more protein, more water, less coffee
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
It took me about 1 year to lose the weight initially before gaining 20 lbs of it back. Recently, in August I started dialing in on my nutrition more and I’ve lose 30lbs making it a total of almost 70 lbs lost.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
When I was heavier, I was an emotional eater. I worked at Mcdonalds and we got free meals on our lunch breaks so I took FULL advantage of that. I would always fill my plate with large helpings for dinner and then go back for seconds, I ate out ALOT, drank soda, ate lots of candy (my dentist wasn’t happy lol)
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
When I first started working out, I signed up for the gym and I would go run 2-3 miles every day (actually it was more like, TRY to run, and end up walking). I would spend 2+ hours a day at the gym, sometimes going twice a day. I didn’t really like working out too much, I would sit in my car and convince myself to walk inside the gym and sometimes I would just leave and go back home.
