WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
After having my daughter in 2014, I found that the weight was not just coming off as expected. I was told that breastfeeding had the tendency to do this at a faster pace than if I was not breastfeeding. I did not lose weight and found myself falling deeper into depression as a result.
The more I thought I was too far gone to take control of my weight, the longer the pounds stuck around. It was not until I changed my frame of thought that I started to see results.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
At my largest weight I was depressed, stressed and overwhelmed. I ached in various parts of my body as I was inactive physically and did not eat right. I was doing what we have done in our family for years… Saying that I was big boned and settling for the weight that I had allowed myself to get to. I decided that to change and save my loved ones I had to start with getting my mind right and ready for the challenge.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I had a thought cross my mind that scared me one day. I was looking in the mirror and I did not like what I saw. I said to myself “you have just let yourself go”. I started to cry and knew that the pain I felt then could possibly drive me out of the weight loss battle I was facing.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started to listen to motivational audio books and read much more. I wanted to go about this journey a different way than I had done in the past. I vowed to condition and nurture my mind to formulate a welcoming environment for weight loss success.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I started to see results just a few weeks into the journey.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I typically get bored with a work out regimen easily. To solve this problem I started just playing music and making up my own dance routines. I would incorporate moves that targeted the desired body parts and it worked like a charm.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I did want to give up a few times. I felt as though I was not seeing my goal results fast enough. I kept envisioning the end result to push me to keep going.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I hit a plateau with about 7 lbs left to my goal weight. I worked out harder and ate a bit less to tackle those.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
It took me about 6 months to lose the weight.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
I remember going to Macy’s after not shopping in almost a year. I did not know what size I was as I was still just wearing my maternity dresses or other items that I already had in my closet. I tried a 10, 8 and then the 6 which is what fit.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
When I was heavier I had no regard to my portions. Now, I eat less and drink plenty of water.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I barely walked for 20 minutes a day when I was heavier. Now, I workout from 30 minutes to an hour daily.

- Create a picture of who you want to be and make that picture bright until you get there
- Stop negative self talk
- Control your food portions
