I’ve struggled with my weight off and on since elementary school.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE? It affected everything. I didn’t want to leave my house or do anything with my family. I was severely depressed and felt like there was nothing left in life and like I has dug a hole so deep it was impossible to get out.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY? I kept trying to lose the weight but Every time I started I would give up. Then one day my dad came over and said something to me that really hurt my feelings. He said, (If you lose weight) you could be really beautiful. I actually asked him to leave my house right after he said it and it hurt really bad, but it was the final straw.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED? I talked my husband into letting me do Medifast. I did that only for about 6-7 months and then started adding exercise.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS? People really started noticing when I was down about 30 pounds, but now they are blown away.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART? Because I didn’t know about TSFL at the time (which is a program that utilizes the Medifast eating plan), I went to a medifast clinic and paid way to much money. But, I was desperate.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING? I never felt like giving up. My mind was set. I’ve lost all my weight before, so I knew I could do it again. I just had to stay consistent.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM? I am actually experiencing one now. I have 20 more pounds to go and have not lost much in the last 2 months. It’s frustrating, but I know my body looks better as I have continued to lose sizes. The scale just isn’t showing it right now. I know it will start moving in the right direction again, I just need to be patient.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT? It has been 13 months since I started.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES? So many NSV’s. I went from size 16/18 to now wearing size 6 and 8. I like to do things again. My kids are happier to have a happy mom who volunteers at their school and is just more active with them in general. It also gave me the confidence to go back to school which I’m really enjoying and excelling at.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? I eat more at home instead of fast food. When I do eat out I usually have a healthy salad. I don’t crave carbs and sugar anymore.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER? I am very active. I workout 4-6 times per week. Cardio and weightlifting. And, I love it.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Decide you’re worth it.
- Stop making excuses.
- Find what motivates you. What is your “why”.
- Find workout classes you enjoy. For me, it’s step aerobics (group classes at my gym) and weightlifting (I take a class at my local college).
- DON’T give up!!!!
