60 Pounds Lost: A Mom’s Journey

My Weight Loss Transformation…

After my 3rd child the weight just didn’t go any where, and after a breast surgery with complications I put on another 20lbs. During recovery I became pregnant with my 4th child and was put on bed rest for the last 5.5 months. After giving birth I weighed 227lbs.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?  I was depressed and had no energy. My thyroid levels were off and I ached in my hips and knees from the extra weight

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?  My sister in law was coming home for the holidays and we were doing family pictures. So I went to the mall in search of clothes. Walked into a store where a nice sales lady lead me to the plus size section. Before we even got to the jeans the tears were rolling down my face. I had never been this big and I knew I had to do something and do it the right way so my daughters would have a healthy role model.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?  I knew a woman that had lost weight running (we were not friends at this point). So I set a date 1-3-13. Talk to my doctor and started on a 1400 calorie diet and working out 6 days a week. I started drinking plain water, made a grocery list, and made sure I had everything I needed to make sure I would succeed.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?  At 30 days in I hit 198 lbs only weighed myself Friday mornings. I wrote the woman (Angie) and we became friends. Going under 200lbs was such a relief and just what I needed to keep me moving!!

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?  It was cold, had a new born baby, we live 2 hour from family, my husband was working long hours, and I was on my own. I had to do everything at home. Support was very low and honestly I have never been very athletic so running was very scary.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?  When I started I had so much self loathing I would cry every time I stepped on the treadmill. I asked myself why I was even trying? I decided to put together pictures I like and recent ones to remind me why I was doing it.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?  At 171 lbs I was stuck. I added strength training and kick boxing classes. I started eating more protein and it started coming off again.


DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?  During this journey I found myself and learned to love myself for the first time. My confidence grew and I started running races.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  I eat breakfast everyday, don’t skip meals, drink half my body weight in ozs of water, and make sure to pay attention to portion size.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  I didn’t really do much before but now I run, bike, lift weights, and love kick boxing!!


  1. Breakfast is important!!
  2. Be aware of what you are eating! Things I thought were healthy were not. Check labels
  3. Stay simple with your meals easier to measure and prepare.
  4. Make a meal plan and a grocery list. If you have everything you need you are set up for success!
  5. A cheat day is a great thing! I always weighed in before though it tends to help you not go overboard.
