What was the “turning point” that prompted you to lose weight?: When I went to my six week appointment after I had my first son in 2009 I hadn’t lost a single pound. I decided then that I was going to lose weight. I didn’t want to be that mom that “let herself go”.
When did you start trying to lose weight?: Six weeks after I had my first son in 2009.
How did you get started?: I started off doing Weight Watchers. I’d done it in the past and knew it worked. I also completely stopped eating fast food until I retrained myself how to eat.
What was your biggest challenge?: Running. I could feel every single thing jiggle when I ran and it grossed me out to the point of tears. I was so disgusted and disappointed with myself that I’d let it get that far, but I also knew it was the thing that was going to fix it.
Were there any times when you wanted to quit or give up? How did you stay motivated?: Most definitely. But I talked openly about my struggles on my blog and I had an amazing community of women cheering me on and supporting me. They motivated me to keep going.
And wanting to fit into my skinny jeans motivated me, too.
If you reached a weight loss plateau, how did you break out of the rut?: I plateaued at 175 for over a month. I just kept going. I tried new things, I played with my calories, I just switched everything up until I found something that worked.
What’s your current exercise routine?: When I first started losing weight all I did was run. I lost 60 lbs. by watching what I ate and running. Then I got pregnant again and I ran throughout that pregnancy. After my second child turned 1 and I’d lost all the weight again, I started adding in weight training. That’s where I’m at now. I workout at the gym 6 days a week. I get up at 4:30am and work out in the mornings and usually one day on the weekend. I like to change it up a lot. I take a boot-camp type class, spin class, kickboxing, and a turbo/step class. That way I never get bored.
What’s your daily diet look like?: Banana, spark and almond butter for breakfast, salad with chicken, salsa, tomatoes, and veggies for lunch, and spaghetti squash or some other clean dinner recipe.
What’s your favorite healthy snack/meal?: I love almond butter and fruit.
Do you have specific suggestions for avoiding temptations? I was a fast food addict. I had to force myself to not eat there for 3 months. After that, the cravings stopped.
What’s your life like after weight loss? Amazing. I feel so much better about myself. I am more confident. I am more outgoing. I just feel like an amplified version of myself and it’s great.
If you have any suggestions to others what would they be? Take it one day at a time. One meal at a time. And JUST KEEP GOING! You’ll get there with a lot of hard work and dedication.
