WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I have always struggled with my weight. After having 3 children, I became extremely depressed and was dealing with anxiety. My weight was out of control.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I was extremely self conscious and always avoided people and social situations. I was scared that others would make fun of me.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
My turning point was in November of 2015. I ended up in the hospital with chest pains and arm pains. My blood pressure was 177/133. They tested my kidneys to make sure I didn’t have kidney damage and the doctor told me that I had to make changes or else.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started an in home workout and nutrition program on January 1, 2016. It helped me learn that food was not my enemy, but it was he fuel that I needed to help me power through the days.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
Within 10 days I started noticing differences in my body and my mental health.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
High blood pressure, fluid retention, depression, and anxiety all plagued me.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Many days I have wanted to give up, but my husband and 3 kids have pushed me each day.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Yes, I hit many weight loss plateaus. That made me up my game even more. I had to tweak certain food groups to what my body needed.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
It has taken me a year and I’m not finished yet!
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Non scale victories were even greater than the weight loss! I’m off of anxiety and depression medicine. I’m also off of diuretics and high blood pressure pills. I’ve gone from a size 22 to a size 12.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I was an emotional binge eater. I would stand in front of the fridge crying and eating everything in sight. I would drink a 2 liter of Mountain Dew, a large sweet tea, and 2 cups of coffee with creamer every single day.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I love working out! It’s my anti depressant. I have started hiking and mountain biking. When I was morbidly obese, I couldn’t even make it up the stairs without being out of breath.
