54 Pounds Lost: Finally living after losing (weight)!

Kelsey Lost 54 Pounds

Honestly, I can’t remember when I started gaining weight because it feels as if I’ve been battling being overweight/obese my whole life.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?  I felt like I couldn’t do the things I wanted to. I love swimming but I rarely went because I didn’t want people to see me in a bathing suit. I didn’t participate in sports as much as I wanted to because I didn’t want people to see me out of breath from barely moving.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?  I’ve always tried losing weight and given up, but I decided I cannot end up with diabetes and all the other weight related health issues my grandmother had.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?  I started by walking and doing weight training at the gym. I’ve always known how to workout, but I finally pushed myself to do it consistently.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?  I started losing weight almost immediately. Not a lot, but enough that I was encouraged to continue.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?  I have wanted to give up more times than I can count, but then I look at a picture of myself at 233 and compare it to where I am now and remember why I am doing this.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?  When I first started out I hit a couple plateaus because I hadn’t yet changed my diet, so I decided to cut out gluten and dairy. Since then I’ve been losing consistently.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?  It took about 5 months to lose about 40lb.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?  I’ve had countless non-scale victories! Clothing I’ve saved for years finally fits again, and I’ve had so much more confidence since losing the weight!

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  I no longer eat gluten or dairy (as often as possible).

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  I walk a lot more every day than I did. I have also sprinkled in some running.

  1. Take it one day at a time. The weight will not just fall off immediately, so you have to keep working toward your goal!
  2. Change your diet!!!! Weight loss really kickstarts when you change what you’re eating. Exercise on its own is not enough!
