WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
All of my life I have had issue with my weight and it got worst after I had my first child.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
Lack of energy, depressed, constantly binge eating
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I literally looked at myself and said it’s time to make a change I was tired of feeling so bad about myself.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started by looking up recipes, following workout plans, and drinking a gallon of water per day.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I lost 10 pounds the first month then, I hit a Plateau at six months into my journey.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I suffered from clinical depression, anxiety, and PTSD everyday it was a struggle for me. I was in an abusive relationship and overcame leaving my abuser. It was hard to let that relationship go since it was the father of my child. He is no longer in the picture nor wants to be. Life has been getting better.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I did not want to give up I was highly motivated and became a bit to fixated on my results and with that I kept pushing to new limits in my athletic abilities. Unfortunately it was taking away from different aspects of focus in my life. Now I have learned to manage my time more and learned to be flexible with what workout routines I do.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Yes I overcame them by continuing to learn to love myself and be satisfied with all the progress I made but kept going in the end.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
About 10 months
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Muscular gain, improved self-perception, confidence (still working on that) and, higher energy levels, my focus improved, my grades increased in school.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Before I cut out everything that was junk in my diet I had meal prepped all my meals. This included complex carbs and proteins. I was very strict with my diet. Now I do more flexible dieting I make better choices regardless and am very aware how bad fast food is I make home cooked meals every week for my family.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I couldn’t do a push up on my knees or hold a plank. I can do 25 or more push-ups, pull ups and can hold a 4 minute plank. I ran my first half marathon this year, I have taken crossfire classes, I lift weights every week as well.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Drink at least 2 glasses of water before a meal, then a coffee with coconut sugar and coconut milk.
- Eat until you feel satisfied don’t stuff yourself. Mindful eating involves eating slower thinking about what you are eating, how does it taste? What does the texture of the food feel like when you eat it.
- Stay away from starchy foods.
- Eat a high protein diet it will fill you up faster.
- Make sure to love yourself on your journey do not compare yourself to others.
