WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I’ve been overweight most of my life. I’ve tried Slim Fast, Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach diet and spent thousands of dollars on a personal trainer. I was never consistent with those programs and my weight would go up and down. One thing I was missing was accountability which is what I got when I joined Beachbody.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I was not comfortable in my own skin. I was unhappy about having to buy bigger clothes. I was out of breath going up a flight of stairs in my house. I had to ask for seat belt extenders on the plane which is very embarrassing.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
My turning point is when I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my right knee. The doctor told me that I needed to lose weight or I would end up having knee surgery in the future. At the time, I was trying to out train a bad diet which put a lot of unnecessary stress on my body.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
In March 2016, I was selected for a test group for a new Beachbody program which has completely changed my life. I’m working out 30 minutes a day in my home, following a portion control meal plan and drinking one superfood shake a day. Working out and eating healthy is a HUGE part of my life now. I genuinely enjoy sweating out my frustrations and living a healthier lifestyle.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I saw results within the first week. In the first month, I lost 19.6 pounds and 15 inches.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I had to mentally prepare myself for this journey. I had to overcome all of the temptations in life and decide I was finally going to get this weight off.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
No, I don’t have days where I want to give up. What keeps me going is that I want to start a family in the future. I don’t want to be overweight while pregnant. I want to have a healthy pregnancy minus any complications due to my weight.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I have hit a few plateaus. When that happen, I re-evualte my week to make sure I drank enough water and got enough rest.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
It has taken me 3 months to lose 49.5 pounds. My goal is to lose 50 more pounds in the next 4 months.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
I was able to fit into a size 20 pant which hasn’t happened in a long time. I’m able to go my the stairs at work and at home without being out of breath. I’m now able to jump without my knee hurting.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I follow a portion control meal plan where I consume 5-6 small meals a day.

- Drink half your body weight in water on a daily basis
- Meal prep every Sunday to ensure set up for success each week.
- Get at 7-8 hours of sleep on daily basis
- Never Give Up
- Strive for progress, not perfection!
