WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
Once I started college, I gained the normal freshman 15 but not any significant amount of weight. It wasn’t until my senior year of college, when I got married, that I really started to notice a larger amount of weight gain in a shorter amount of time.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
After getting married I picked up my entire life and moved across the country where my husband was stationed. I feel like I lost myself, I transferred schools, I didn’t know anything about the area where we were and had no friends or family close by. I started gaining weight and totally lost who I was. It affected my confidence and the amount of self love I had.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
My husband and I were both overweight and both had bigger builds then most and we became so tired of hating the way we looked. We decided we would take on this journey together and get to our healthiest selves. We decided it was possible to get to our goal weights and in a very healthy place in our lives.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
We started with going to the gym every morning before work to workout together and meal prepping on Sunday’s. We tried to make it as simple and have no excuses.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
We noticed results right away. It’s incredible how what you eat can drastically change your body-in and positive or negative way. It was a few months until we noticed significant weight loss, our weight would fluctuate but it would stay close in numbers. But what the best part was was how we felt! It changed us from the inside out.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
We experienced a lot of judgement t from my family. Always joking about what we are and if it was on the meal plan, having the urge to make healthy choices when we were eating out, and sometimes waking up early enough to workout. It was all difficult at first but everything is a choice and we just had to keep making the right decisions until it turned into a habit.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Sometimes I wanted to give up because that’s the easy way out, but I realized that I would never get to the body I’ve been wanting for so long by not working towards it. Even slow progress is till progress.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Not yet. I’m still on my journey and will always preserve no matter what the challengers are.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
I had a lot of weight to lose so at first it came off quickly but the less weight you have to lose the longer it takes to lose it. So it’s slowing down now but that’s okay b
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
I am able to fit into clothes from high school again and it’s the best feeling ever! I also can run a full mile without stopping. I used to run 3 miles a day and j tore my MCL in college and haven’t been able to run since then and the weight gain never helped. I can now run a full mile again without stopping!
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I eat all real foods, I try to stay away from processed foods. Obviously I still have some but my diet consist of A LOT more veggies then it ever has!
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I workout daily and I actually look forward to it. But not only working out but I’m active everyday doing something outdoors that’s not necessarily a workout but still getting up doing something good for my body!
