25 and Never Been So Alive – 183 Pounds Lost

WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?  When I was about 8 years old

NAME : Brenda
BEFORE WEIGHT : 330
AFTER WEIGHT : 177
POUNDS LOST : 153

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?  I have been removed from rides, charged for not one but two seats on a helicopter ride for a surprise anniversary gift (ended up canceling), couldn’t ride the zip line in my town for my birthday, I’ve stayed home from friends birthday parties, held off meeting my boyfriends family. Etc.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?  I’ve always known I’ve been “the big girl”. I’ve always realized there was an issue with my weight loss. Nothing specific happened. As soon as I was old enough to work I picked up two jobs just to pay for Jenny Craig.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?  I asked my father for help at the age of 17. I looked into weight loss programs and began with Jenny Craig. I worked a second job to pay for it.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?  I’d say I noticed my differences about 4 months after.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?  I lost my very best friend because of my choice to lose a significant amount of weight. About 2 months into my journey she stopped talking to me.  I’ve also been put down numerous times for choosing the route I did in the end to get to my goal.
Also having loose skin to carry around after going through your journey and hitting your goal can be a serious mental thing for some. It’s horrible. You truly feel like nothing is a enough and you will never be good enough.  I had plastic surgery to remove mine. Working two jobs 7 days a week 15 hr days to pay for it at the age of 25!

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?  I have wanted to quit. But some day I want children and I want to be able to do everything with them. I want to be alive for them. I also knew quitting wasn’t an option because I had done it so many times before and never reached my goal.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?  Oh man yes. Quite a few plateaus. I knew that the only way I could get to my goal is by not giving up on myself. I also thought of all the times I said to myself “if only I never gave up where would I be?”

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?  It took me a year to loose the most. Took me a year and 2 months to get to goal.

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?  Not needed a belt extender on a plane.  No longer being considered a “plus size woman.”  Being able to wear a bikini.  Not wearing a double digit in jeans.  Being stopped at a grocery store to be told they follow my journey on Instagram and I’m a huge inspiration to them. ♥️

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  I didn’t eat insanely bad. But I did eat about two times a day (full meals) and they were always super super late and always fast food or huge portions. I have always loved chips and soda as well. Never been a huge sweets eater. More of the salty items.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?  I use to work out 5-6x a week in the beginning of my journey for about 5-6 months straight. Then I stepped back a lot and I would work out at a nearby park instead of the gym and I’d go hiking every Saturday. After that I picked up a second job to help pay for skin removal surgery and I couldn’t make it to the gym anymore. But I’d still walk around my neighborhood and make sure to reach over 20k steps a day.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Prep your meals. Weigh your meals.
Even prep your water bottles with your favorite sugar free flavor packets. Make your protein shake the night before and have your vitamins set to go.
  2. Have a weekly workout routine ready to go for each day of the week. Stick to it for a month then switch things around. When your body gets use to the same routine it gets use to it and this is when plateaus tend to occur.
  3. Have at least one single friend or an outlet like a weight loss account on Instagram to help keep you accountable for your actions.
  4. Never skip a Monday in the gym or eating clean from the AM to the PM!
  5. Take tons and tons of before pictures. You’ll never regret this. Because if you believe in yourself as much as you should you’ll never see that girl/guy again. So you’ll never have another opportunity to snap a shot of you at your heaviest.
