WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I have always a bigger person but after my children were born I had a few surgeries in between them and the weight just seemed to pack on.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I have herniated disks in my back and I got to the point where I could barely walk. I needed a walker to assist with walking.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
My husband looked at me one day and said if I didn’t do something about my weight I would more than likely be needing a wheelchair soon. I decided right then that would not be happening to me. I also have a child with Autism who relies on me to take him to and from therapy so being disabled myself is not an option.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I was asked what i wanted for my Anniversary. My typical answer would have been go out to eat, not this time. I told my husband I would like a recumbent exercise bike. I could only do five minutes at a time to begin with and could only walk up and down the sidewalk.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
The scales were very disappointing to me at first. Three months it took for my weight to even register a weight because I would always get a big fat E because I weighed so much the scales did not read.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
The pain in my back was the main obstacle but I knew it was lose the weight or die. Those were my choices.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
All the time I wanted to give up but I knew I was feeling better the more I lost. My children were always there rooting me on.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Absolutely I think everyone hits a plateau and they feel like giving up but you can’t. You have to move forward. I just kept eating the same foods as I was before I hit the plateau and eventually the weight loss picked right back up.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
I know the exact date of my weight loss start date because that was the first day of the rest of my life. Never will I forget February 17th, 2014. Coincidentally it’s the same day my son was matched with his runner on a group called Who I Run 4. Michelle was sent to us from Heaven. God knew I needed her as much as my son. This group matches runners with buddies with special needs who for some reason or another can not run.So a year and eight months.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
I run now myself because Ms. Michelle has inspired me so much to get off the couch and start living my life. I have also been in school since May 2014.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Wow where do I start? I do not eat red meat, pork, most breads, and have cut out sodas. I eat alot of salads and protein shakes. I had considered weight loss surgery but it just wasn’t for me.Beofre it was nothing for me to eat two or even three McDoubles and still be hungry.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I run all the time. Doing my first Half Marathon called the Zooma Women’s on November 8, 2015. Comparitively speaking I was a couch potato and could barely move….Exercise what was that?
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Never give up. Always believe in yourself. You can do it . Dig deep. You are your biggest cheerleader.
- Drink lots of water. It helps.
- Join a gym and get into the habit of going no matter how uncomfortable you may feel. You are there for you and no one else.This is your journey.
- Some may not agree with this tip but I cut out the red meat. There is alot of grease in those types of foods.
- Reduce Carbs. I cut out bread almost totally.
