WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I’ve always struggled with my weight from the age of 10 and up. It was my first year of university where it really got serious.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
Being that big really affected my happiness and my lifestyle. I was never able to do what I wanted. I was always uncomfortable going out with my friends who looked great in their clothes. My relationship with my boyfriend was starting to get distant, I knew things needed to change.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
One night I was sleeping and I awoke with sharp pains, I couldn’t breathe. I went to emergency and after having a slew of tests done, the doctor said YOU MUST LOSE WEIGHT. I knew it was time so I changed my entire lifestyle.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started by eating healthy and cutting all junk out of my diet. As I started to lose, I began incorporating exercise.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
Because I was larger, losing 5lbs wasn’t very noticeable. However once I lost about 20lbs I really started to notice the difference and people around me started to notice as well.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I love food, who doesn’t?! That was my biggest challenge, was kicking the foods I loved the most. I needed to realize this wasn’t just a small change and this was going to be an entire lifestyle change.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I definitely wanted to give up, many times. However, I knew I couldn’t and this had to be done. I had plenty of support and they kept me going.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
After I lost the biggest chunk of my weight, about 140lbs, I started to plateau. I started working out harder and more often and was able to overcome that and lose the rest of it.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
It took me about 2 years to lose most of my weight, I still continue to lose.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
My daily diet consists of eating every meal, no skipping and binge eating in between. I have a balanced diet of vegetables, proteins and fats. When I was larger I was eating complete junk. Fried foods, processed foods, sweets, etc.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
When I was my largest I NEVER worked out. I now workout 4+ times a week. I can easily run 5km and actually enjoy it. Working out has become a passion of mine.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- DO NOT GIVE UP. Things will get harder before they get easier, you need to push and don’t give up.
- Enjoy what you’re doing! Fall in to a routine you truly enjoy, it makes your journey so much easier.
- Motivate yourself! Use whatever you can to motivate yourself..a photo, a dream, a goal, etc.
- Make your food fun. Not every healthy meal needs to be boring — go online and search for tasty and fun healthy meals, it’ll make eating healthy much easier.
- Don’t forget this is for YOU. No one knows you better than you, only you can depict your future and change your life
