WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I’ve always been overweight even as a child. Coming from a Mexican family I never had the healthiest food options. It wasn’t until my junior year of high school that I began to worry about my image & decided to go vegan to improve my health.

HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
Honestly thanks to being raised around such loving family, I’ve never had a negative affect. The only negative affect was feeling like I wasn’t good enough, skinny enough, or pretty enough to talk to a guy.

WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I started following another girls weightloss journey on Instagram, I’ve previously lost large amounts of weight over the years (220-180 being vegan for 5 years), (190-165 with vigorous exercise when I was a freshman in college) however both of those times I did it thinking about how it would make guys find me more attractive. My turning point was this summer, when I decided to do it for myself.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started in August with a personal trainer, I remember I ate hot Cheetos before and I honestly thought I was going to puke. My trainer was strict & I eventually stopped hating him for “torturing” me. I also started running at least a mile every day.

HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
About two months in I started noticing my face was slimmer, and clothes were fitting a lot better.

WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
The challenges I over came were, of course fighting off the urge to eat everything my grandmother cooked that was unhealthy, and developing a habit of exercising everyday.

DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I recently hit a slump but what keeps me going is that my mom sees me as her motivation to keep going to the gym as well. Worrying about to health makes me want to go push harder.

DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I hit my plateau in March, I was stuck at 180, I overcame it by adding on an extra hour of exercise every other day.

HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
It took me about 6 months to lose most of the weight

DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
My non-scale victory was definitely moving from a 14 to 8-9 in jeans. I can shop freely now

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
My diet has a lot more greens and less grease.

HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
When I was heavier I couldn’t run longer than a minute, now I’m able to run 25 minutes constantly.

MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS

  1. Drink lots of water
  2. Say no to snacking
  3. At LEAST 30 minutes of working out!
  4. A quick workout is better than no workout
  5. Diet is more important than you think
