WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I had been overweight my whole life but I really began gaining weight after my best friend passed away when I was 16.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I couldn’t do the simplest things, walking around the house or even bending over to tie my shoes was the hardest thing.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
When I went for a check up with my doctor and she told me that if I didn’t make a change and fast that I was going to die. This was at the age 21.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started my going to a local zumba class in my hometown and that’s what I strictly did for a year and half and how I dropped 140 pounds. I cut out pop, cut back on my portion sizes, and no fast food.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
About 3 months into it I started noticing the weight loss.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
The hardest part for me was changing my eating habits because I love to eat and a lot at a certain point in time and having to cut back was hard but I’ve learned how to deal with that.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
There were many times that I wanted to give up because either the scale wasn’t moving or life happened and that would set me back. I would always go back to my “why” which was I want to me a mom and I want to get married one day, I need to be around for my future kids and husband. I didn’t want to be the mom that couldn’t run and play with her kids because she was to overweight so that is what keeps me going.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Many times I hit plateaus my longest lasted for a year and it was so frustrating. So I joined a gym here in my hometown for the very first time in January of 2016 And started lifting heavier and getting in more cardio and that has really helped me when I would get stuck.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
It took me 11 months to lose 100 pounds and 6 months to lose 40 pounds.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Many!!! I started this journey as a size 26 and I’m now a size 13/14. I was wearing a mens 4XL and I now fit into a large. I have ran 2 5ks, able to lift heavier, can do burpees, and 1 armed burpees and just being happy for the first time in my life.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
My diet now is ZERO fast food. Lean meats, fresh fruits and veggies, yogurt. Lots and lots of water. When I was heavier I would drink close to 100 oz of pop a day, I could eat a whole large pizza by myself, ice cream, cake, fast food and I would eat so much that I would get physically sick.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I work out 6 times a week for 2 hours and day versus zero physical activity.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Do something you love because if you enjoy doing it then you are going to want to continue doing it.
- Ladies don’t be afraid to lift! It won’t make you big.
- Love yourself! List 5 things everyday that you love about yourself.
- Drink lots and lots of water.
- Don’t give up!! Believe in yourself
