Hi, my name is Lisa Smith I’m 25, and since I was 10 years old I have had weight problems.

I have been to nutritionists, dietitians, doctors, psychologists, and tried every popular weight loss programs.

My weight was a struggle in elementary and middle school when I my weight doubled of everyone else. I hid food everywhere, under my bed, in the couches, because at that time I never found the willpower to stop eating.

In 2000, I was in a car accident and it caused two herniated discs in my back, this injury will give me problems for the rest of my life. I was 200lbs when I got married in June 2007, and I graduated Magna Cum Laude with my Bachelors degree on December 2009 weighing 270lbs.

My mom wasn’t there to tell me to stop putting food in my mouth, and with working, going to college fulltime, we ate a lot of fast food. My menstrual cycle had ceased without taking birth control pills, the doctor told me I probably had Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) which causes infertility, and the treatment is weight loss.

After I graduated, I tried Curves for three months but the exercise program was too strenuous on my back. It caused me to gain more weight because I would come home in pain and eat two meals worth of food in one setting. I finally got help to manage the pain, but in 2 years I had put on another forty three pounds to reach a peak of 313 pounds.

My mom suggested WW with the new Points+ program. In April 2011, my meeting leader Linda said I came in “ready to lose weight,” and I have. With eTools /App, I am able to plan ahead and cook delicious healthy meals on Sunday with different foods for every dinner meal that we can heat up during the week and take to parties. Thanks to the App we’re able to go out to eat and make good choices without having to feel guilty.

Along with the encouragement from my husband, parents, sisters and the WW meetings, in 88 weeks I have lost 140 lbs by making smart food choices and tracking what I eat, without pills, injections, surgery, or strenuous exercise. It’s not a diet but a lifestyle change, WW adds the structure I need to succeed.

This story is very encouraging to me as someone who struggles with weight and back issues (3 bulging discs, arthritis & stenosis in my lower back). I know I can lose weight while monitoring what I eat and counting calories. I’ve done it twice but in the last several months I’ve ended up gaining weight back. Stories like this encourage me to get refocused.
