WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I have always had a problem with my weight. I was born almost at 10 pounds. After high school my weight continued to spiral out of control and I gained so much weight it made me depressed.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
My weight affected me in so many ways because I was limited to the things I could do and I began having lower back pain so things such as exercise or just walking around was very difficult. I love to travel but everytime I sat down on a plane the seatbelt didn’t fit. I always thought I was beautiful and outgoing but very self conscious and my weight limited everything. While in Mexico I wanted to zip line but I didn’t make the weight requirement and I was embarrassed to say the least.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
After being so frustrated with being limited to what activities I could participate in due to my size and developing sleep apnea and given a Cpap machine I knew a change had to come. I was border line for diabetes and the weight I was carrying around just became yo much to bare and I decided right then that I’m changing my life for the better.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
The first thing I did was seek a nutritionist because I wanted to be properly educated so that I could make the right choices for my new lifestyle. I did a liquid diet to detox my body. I threw away all junk food and began meal prepping each week to avoid makes bad choices. I joined a gym and hit a personal trainer and the transformation began.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I started seeing results when I started detoxing my body . Ten pounds in a week I couldn’t believe it and from there I continued to make healthy lifestyle changes and the weight just fell off.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
I had to overcome not wanting to exercise, PCOS, sleep apnea, and many people who doubted me.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I have times where I want to give up because it is not easy but it’s worth it. When I look in the mirror and at old photos and having strangers tell me that I motivate them to lose weight I know that I can’t give up because it’s just a lot of people cheering for me and I will keep pushing for us all. My mother beat Stage 2 Breast cancer I knew I could beat obesity.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
I have hit a plateau during this journey and I overcame it by giving up meat for a little while and finding veggie options to help get past this minor setback and it worked.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
After 6 months you could tell a significant difference at the 8 month mark majority of my weight had been lost and I hope to never find it again.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Yes being able to zip line finally and my back pain disappeared. I no longer feel self conscious just beautiful inside and out.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
When I was heavy I ate all the time. When I was bored or mad or sad I would eat and I would stuff myself so much I would have to immediately go and lay down because I felt sick. I never counted calories I just ate whatever I wanted even if I was not hungry I would still eat.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
When I was heavier I hated working out. I didn’t like being out of breath and sweating but now I feel guilty if I miss a day at the gym. I was limited to how long I could exercise at first because my weight caused me to have back pains but as I lost weight the pain was a thing of the past. I can now go for a horseback ride or parasailing and anything else I want to do because I have the energy to do so. During Christmas I visited Medellin Colombia and finally made weight to zip line. My next vacation is coming up and I can’t wait to cross off more bucket list items.

- Drink water it’s like a magic weight loss pill.
- Do not starve eat healthy meals and snacks daily.
- Portion control !!
- Eat to live do not live to eat.
