WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I was big throughout my whole childhood. My whole family was overweight and I remember eating huge amounts of food everyday.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I had low self confidence throughout my childhood despite my good life. I found it hard to make friends and it still effects me now.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
After ending a relationship I decided it was time to change, unfortunately at the time I got an infection that made me sick for about 3 months, having that made my stomach shrink a lot
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
Once I was healthy enough I started working out, even just getting out of the house, going to the beach etc I changed the way I ate, portion sizes; no fast food etc
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
I started in around June 2015 and by December 2015 I had lost 25kg
I didn’t really notice my results it was more friends telling me how small i was getting haha
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
A lot of people assumed I was on drugs, the same time I got sick a close friend of mine was in an accident and as you can imagine nobody noticed I was sick with everything else going on.
A lot of people believed I couldn’t do it, and that my goal of 75kg was way to small
I struggled with motivation to keep going, but it was a lot to do with the fact that I couldn’t find a job and now my life’s a lot better things are definitely looking up
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
No, I was so sick of being big once I started there was no going back ever
I felt like a person with no purpose or motivation, soo much has changed now
The prospect of a new better life kept me going
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
I have lost 53kgs in 1 1/2 years
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
In the past 2 months since I started working the excess skin around my stomach has dramatically decreased
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I used to eat 3 large meals a day including multiple snacks; chips, pies, pizza, chocolate, lollies etc washed down with fizzy drink and up to 4-5 373ml red bulls a day
Now I’ve completely cut out bread and most fast foods, I usually eat cheese+crackers for breakfast, and I snack on fruit/ nuts throughout the day, for dinner lately I’ve been having couscous and tuna with potato salad
Now i will only have the occasional redbull/fizzy when I’m working
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I work as a store assistant for a busy retailer which includes everything from till to running stock, I am constantly on my feet and a lot more active in my general lifestyle
I used to get driven places and now i prefer to walk
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- Pick out the tiniest details that you love about yourself everyday
- Throw out your old clothes, even if you go op shopping to get new ones
- Don’t gauge your success against other people’s or the number on the scales
- Have atleast 1 chill-down exercise that you love to do; yoga, swimming, hiking etc for the days when you are too sore to do a proper workout
