WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I’ve been an obese since I was a kid. Every year I’ll gain some weight because I’d always eat junk foods thrice time everyday. I don’t even realize it then.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
Overweight makes me not be able to do the thing that I wanted to do. For example I used to trouble my parents a lot because I’m not able to put on my own clothes. I can’t enjoy the life fully because I can’t walk for long. I give worry a lot of people without I realize it.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
The turning point happened in September 2014. I remember it clearly that time I was having a lazy day like usual and when I about to get up from my bed, I suddenly have a hard time to breathe and my chest hurts so bad. I think it was sorta heart attack. It scares me so much that finally it hits me “If i don’t do something now, I’ll surely gonna die sooner”
And beside that I was developed a PCOS (actually I just learned about PCOS now after I lose weight, I don’t know the name of the sickness then)
I started not having my monthly routinely since I was 16 years old. And my monthly even stopped like two years.
I was ignorant and I thought it happened because I was still a teenager. I thought it was common. But it was because my weight.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
Ever since I got my turning point, I finally decide I need to make a change now cause time can no longer wait me. “If I don’t do it now, I’m pretty sure I’m gonna die sooner.” That’s what I thought.
I tried a lot of time before but I didn’t dedicate my self fully and I was still feeling “forced”.
So that time, I did it because I wanted to do it. It came from me. Not from people. That’s how I get started.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
Honestly I didn’t feel the process because I enjoy it. It’s very different than when I workout with still feeling being “forced”.
So I didn’t realize how long it did it takes. But I remember I was already feeling proud because I can fit into my brother’s pants (I was always bigger than my brother) into three months of my progress. I think the size pants was 38 US. I was always wear size pants 42 to 44 US men size before then.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
Not liking exercise and obviously right now I can stay away from unhealthy foods aka junk foods.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
Before then, yes I did always want to give up. But not this time. Because my mindset is not because I want to loss weight now. It is because I want to be healthy.
So I don’t feel anything about give up now.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
During my very first progress, I honestly don’t weigh my self so much. But I did measure my waist. My goal was the size of my waist.
So I didn’t know if I hit any plateaus during my early progress.
Though right now after I have loss a lot of weight already I think I currently hit the plateaus. And it’s fine. The scale doesn’t really matter anyway.
As long as I keep maintain the weight and still being fit.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
Like I said, I didn’t weigh my self so much so I’m not sure. But I think I lose so much within a half year.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
I don’t know for now because I just hit my plateaus. But I think I’ll have it soon.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I always say I don’t do diet because I don’t really strictly eat a slightly amount of calories. I always feeling full. I never feel hungry.
I just eat right and cleaner than when I was heavier.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I go workout five to six times a week. I can walk for long.
Back when i was heavier all I did was just sitting in front of my laptop and eat a lot of snacks. I was really anti-social.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- My first tip: You need to find your turning point first before you want to make a changes. If you don’t find your turning point yet, you wouldn’t be able to make it. Turning point is essential because it what keeps you going. It’s the main purpose why you want to do it.
If you do it because other people and not come from your own self, it will never work.
- My second tip: Start change your mindset. Most people (including me before) want to do this because they want to loss weight due to society standard.
I, too, also felt that way. But it didn’t work for me.
Only until I did it because I wanted to be healthy that I finally gain what I gain.
Make this as your lifestyle, your way of life, enjoy every steps, every moments, not feeling pressured because you feel “forced”, hopefully the journey will be easier.
- My third tip: Screw the scale! Don’t focus on the scale during your early progress because It will makes you depressed, and depression will lead to give up.
I said, it’s better if you measure your size instead.
Sometimes the scale didn’t change but our body size did change before you even know it.
- Last but not least, this is a lifetime commitment, so you need to fully commit yourself. Don’t do it with half heart. Once you start, you can’t backout.
Make this as your lifestyle, your needs not your obligations, hopefully you can feel what i feel now.
And also, don’t focus on other people! Everybody progress are different. You may be faster than me or slower than me.
Don’t focus on “how long”. Just keep going. You’ll see the result before you even know it.
- My workout:
I did a lot of cardios and the tools I used the most was crosstrainer or elliptical.
I can’t use treadmill because my legs would hurts so much if I walk so I used crosstrainer.
And now that I have loss a lot of weight and I want to be stronger and leaner, I currently starting BBG.
But please note! The way I workout may not works for you. Everybody are different. Treadmill was not working for me but it did wander to some people. While vice versa, some people may not be suitable for crosstrainer but it did wander to me.
My advice is just.. You have to keep moving. Whatever exercise it is. Keep moving until you find which exercise that suitable for you!
