WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I was always a big child, since I was chubby and then it just continued on.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
When you are overweight the minor moments make you tired. Health wise thank GOD it didn’t give any side effect, but I was always tired. Anything that required physical activity would exhaust me. I dreaded when my friends made plans that required walking or hiking because i knew i would be out of breath soon. That I would be too exhausted. Now i am the one that wants to go be active.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
I always made the resolution every year that I was going to lose weight and get healthy, but it never happened. Well in 2015 I decided that it was time to stop making excuses, and get working. it was a perfect time to start because the other aspects of my life were going well (Job, career, social life) so this was the right time to focus on me. Self-investment is the best investment.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I signed up to the Gym and started doing cardio and some of the machines on my own. But I needed guidance, I also wanted to start lifting weights and had no idea were to start. I started training with Joe Ngo @yeahsoowhat on IG, since day one he has been by my side teaching and making sure I have the right form and pushing to be better. I currently train with him twice a week and the other days I plan my workouts based on what he has taught me. Happy to still be able to see result and get stronger week by week.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
Right away!! I remember when I first lost 5lbs I was so happy. Because It meant it was working. Now I don’t focus so much on the scale as much as I focus on eating right and lifting. It has become a way of life for me, this is my life now. I enjoy my workout time and look forward to it all day.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
So many challenges, I hated walking into the GYM because i felt people staring at me. I hated exercising so much because at 328 lbs everything is a struggle. Just climbing the stairs took everything I had. Doing basic body weight exercises seemed impossible. and day by day all of that went away. I don’t remember when it happened, but i felt in love with lifting and working out. I enjoy it so much me and friends do it daily after work literally had becomes out HAPPY HOUR more like hours since we are going to there for hours.
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
No, never… I felt helpless and hopeless at times, but quitting was never part of the plan or a thought that crossed my mind. I told myself I was doing this for me so this fight was for me. No one else is going to see the rewards in my health and body other than me. So I cannot quit on myself.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Yes, I did a couple of times. I overcame them by changing the intensity of my workouts and calories intake. Which helps you reboot the information.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
20 Months and counting. I am not were I want to be. I am hoping to shred 40-50 lbs to be a good point and just maintain there.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
Yes, fitting into smaller clothes sooner than expected. Being able to fit in a machine. Sitting in airplane seat instead of 2. wrist getting smaller around your watch. Being able to stretch properly and hold it. Being able to use the flat bench and not being afraid of toppling over.
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Before I use to eat everything without regards. Now I eat 1800 calories 50% carbs 25% protein 25% fats I eat to fit my macros so i can fuel my workouts. Because I do heavy lifting I get to eat a little more than usual and it works wonders.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I had no physical activity at all.
Now I go to the gym 7 days a week. I lift 6 day and do cardio. On the seventh day I take a rest from weights and do cardio only. You can say I am pretty active now.
MY WEIGHT LOSS TIPS & TRICKS
- In other to loose weight you have to eat, drink water and make sure you are eating healthy. You are what out eat.
- Don’t be afraid to workout, people are not judging they are amazed that you are there working.
- celebrate non-scale victories – don’t focus too much on the scale. Muscle is a beautiful thing.
- Being sore is normal remember to stretch and keep hydrated.
- Love yourself before and after. Being thinner will not make you love you more. Love yourself enough to take car of yourself now. To want to be healthies so you cna live longer.
