110 Pounds Lost: Like waking up from a nightmare
NAME : Tina
BEFORE WEIGHT : 286 pounds
AFTER WEIGHT : 174 pounds
POUNDS LOST : 110 pounds
WHEN DID YOU START DEVELOPING A WEIGHT PROBLEM?
I was very young when it all first started. I went through a series of eating disorders, because I felt something was wrong with my body way before entering my teen years. Then the weight garn started at 14, and kept escelating.
HOW DID YOUR WEIGHT AFFECT ANY ASPECT(S) OF YOUR LIFE?
I started isolating myself, got depressed and developed severe anxiety.
WHAT WAS THE “TURNING POINT” THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY?
After a rutine check, my doctor told me that I was close to developing diabetes type 2, among other things. I was lacking many essential vitamins aswell. We spoke about gastric bypass, which gave me a huge reality check, and instead I took matters into my own hands and said no to bypass surgery.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I started very slowly. Walking was hard, so I began with slow walks only about ten minutes. But the first few weeks it was all about eating better, which was hard enough when food is (was) an audition.
HOW LONG AFTER YOU STARTED DID YOU BEGIN TO SEE RESULTS OF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS?
After only a week I had lost 2 pounds! And kept going! It was so strange.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART?
As a former food addict it took me a while to overcome the cravings, and to adapt to new things in life. Im glad to say that it is fully possible!
DID YOU EVER WANT TO GIVE UP? WHAT KEPT YOU GOING?
I knew the road a head was long, which sometimes could be demotivating. But staying strong is so important to keep going. And to try again if there is a slip.
DID YOU HIT ANY WEIGHT LOSS PLATEAUS? HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
By keep going no matter what, even if there were days I totally had no motivation, I knew that it was not the end. I wrote down reasons to keep going on a small paper, which I kept with me, and read as often as I could.
HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LOSE MOST OF THE WEIGHT?
The first half took me a little over a year, then I had a “break” for over a year, but kept my weight stable, then lost more.
DID YOU HAVE ANY NON-SCALE VICTORIES?
WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY DIET LOOK LIKE COMPARED TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
I used to eat junk and sweets every single day. Now I focus on fruits, berries, yoghurt, wholegrains and generally leaner foods.
HOW DOES YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY COMPARE TO WHEN YOU WERE HEAVIER?
Like two different univeres! I can do so much more now without running out of breath, and not all in slow motion!
